Trying to Find My Way

I'm a writer, a poet, a dreamer. Born and raised in New York City. I now live in Daytona Beach, Florida with my wonderful cat Sid.

trying-to-find-my-way

Long ago and far away,

like somewhere beyond the rainbow,

when life was so fine -

a gentler and simpler time.

So many days have flown,

I now look at what I own,

my love and my home

and often when I gaze into the mirror,

knowing that the years of love,

have now gone,

but they’ve left behind –

so many shining memories.

So to ease my mind,

I need to step back in time,

for no matter what –

I will never forget that once you were mine.

So I’d like to find my way,

to fly back to those days -

just for a moment more.

To contact with the child in me,

to know how grand life can be,

if you keep your heart light,

delight in all this world has to offer

live as if you’re marching in a parade,

tooting your own horn -

most every day.

Smile just as warm as the sun,

remember all the fun

and it makes me so glad,

that at the end of each day,

I can find my way -

back to the me that once was.

The me when things meant so much more,

than they do now

and once again I’m a child,

having found my way back -

to my special yesterdays.

A child dancing in the rain,

flying with the wind,

being all that I can be -

being simply me.

Gypsy, I love your poem, but

If I had a time machine

So that memories I could glean

I might never want to return

To where life seems sometimes so mean

And life is no longer lean

Where all my clothes are splitting at the seams

Would I really want to face the feigns?

Of what I use to be

If I could go back and change what was

Would I change or still be me?

I agree with Martie. It’s important to continue to make good memories so that you can look back on better times.

There is an ethereal charm in your simple words and thoughts and the manner in which you have strung them together.

Finding time to reflect on who we are & what drives our spirit is an essential part to life. You put it so eloquently in the verse above. Thank you

You actually remind me of the Beatles for some reason. Perhaps it is because you simply want to be yourself. A bit of a childlike poem... I mean the sweet part of us, the one without guile. Peace.

I have no words of wisdom. Sending hugs your way.

Beautiful, dear Rasma! And that is why we have to make good memories each and every day - to fall back to during the winters of our lives. Take care!
