Treasures of Heart

Author:

Val enjoys writing prose in rhymes by always leaving a message of a life truism in each piece.

Introduction

Most of my written words so far were hoping to at least open some eyes ajar; but I am guilty of not writing enough of those that would also open hearts. So here I go with this clumsy attempt, remotely resembling poetry by form, to inspire some joy and ease -- if I can.

As I am doing that, my only excuse for not striving for perfection is the fact that my rhymes are not addressing some perfect people -- but much someone like myself.

I am merely hoping that you may, if by a fraction, enjoy reading them as much as I am enjoying writing them.

After lately writing some satires, I find this little switch refreshing. The mood reminds me of that one during my morning practice of feeling divinely blissful without any reason. I wish I could verbalize that one, but I would just mess it up, probably using some phrases that would not do it any justice.

So I'll just write something about love, about humor, that stuff, trying to get on the page of your heart -- at least in those moments when that heart is, both -- easy to uplift, and forgiving enough for not made ecstatic.

So, here I go.

Oliver Hardy and Stan Laurel -- a Duo That Made My Parents Laugh. Then came Jerry Lewis, and Jim Carrey. Is There Any Other Recent History Worth Remembering?

If we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane.

-- Robert Frost

Ode to Comedians

Comedians, unsung heroes deserving every prize

deserving medals for triumph over human crap

for turning a gloomy hell on earth into paradise

worthy of every standing ovation and a clap.

What they are doing is always reminding

how we cannot laugh unless provoked

in need of their talent for unwinding

so that some fun may be evoked.

For, as babies we laughed if nothing was funny

we didn't need any jokes to give life the spice

but that was before we learned about money

which spoiled that simplicity joyful and nice.

Comedians are healers outdoing any shrink

laughter being medicine only love can match

and it does not matter what anyone may think

they are out of our league, spirits hard to catch.

Humor is the privilege of human race

and we just can't appreciate it enough

without humor in life we're shrink's case

life being problematic, painful, and tough.

So may be blessed every jester and clown

each standup comedian and slapstick goof

for wiping some tear and smoothing a frown

with a joke, or a sitcom, and a hilarious spoof.

Hearts Don't Grow Old Because Body Got Old -- but Because Those Sweetest Memories of Youth Don't Come up Often Enough.

There is no love like the first.

-- Nicholas Sparks

First Love Never Forgotten

In those blooming youthful starts

when even winters felt like a spring

love was budding in impatient hearts

just wondering whom Amor may bring.

And then that lover came invading our dream

with face and all the rest so hot that it burned

irresistible with yet unknown magic of gleam

which called for prayer for that love returned.

With a joy so intense that it was hurting

we finally found the courage to say it all

first love words that came out as blurting

with crossed fingers and a hope so small.

There are hearts with no need to roam around

to try that second one and how many more

so some of us stayed with whom we found

each anniversary being first date encore.

Years are passing and we get older

not craving for much, nothing to miss

summers get shorter, winters get colder

but spring brings memories of that first kiss.

Mind is like parachute. It can't work if it is not open.

-- Frank Zappa

Open Your Mind

Take a trip outside your mind

to explore the worlds unknown

just curious what you might find

when thoughts are not your own.

Brainstorm over opposite views

and dare to see them correct

maybe you could even use

something you neglect.

Forget what's defining you

notably your pet convictions

imagine them all to be untrue

something like mental addiction.

Play in theater of your mind

games of life maybe strange

leave suggestive past behind

use spirit to broaden your range.

Nothing is as it seems to be

our mind just keeps making it so

new world opens when you set it free

more wondrous than we could ever know.

John -- We are all "multi-layered" personalities. In an opposite sense from what you noticed, some people couldn't believe that more than half century ago I was a drill sergeant in the army -- as they judge by my calm, easy going, flexible manners. I'm like a cat -- purring in one moment, and ready for action in another. Two weeks ago I single-handedly painted the whole apartment, moving around heavy furniture, not taking a break until I was done. -- and then I parked my lazy ass as if nothing happened.

I am the same with my writing -- in one moment I may be blasting every crazy thing going on in people and in politics, and then going romantic. To me it's this thing about "balancing" myself. Canadian climate is helping -- giving harsh winters and hot and humid summers.

Anyhow, I am glad you liked my prose in rhymes.

You revealed a different side of yourself with these poems, Val. They were a pleasure to read.

Laughter is the best medicine...or at least that's what they say.

It is amazing to see things through a child's eyes...everything is new and wonderful. A baby laughs at the simpler moments in life.

Young love. I think we remember those tender moments when we reach for the stars hoping with all our might.

It's great to look back now and just relax.

Opening up one's mind is a big one. More people need to do this for there is alot of possibilities if we stop planning each step.

Nothing is at seems.

I wake up usually in a blissful mood. Some say they don't understand how I can be so chipper first thing in the morning, but that is how I greet my day.

If I don't...and I wake up in a bad mood, I might as well go back to bed and hide beneath the covers. Because this day will be bad from start to finish...nothing will go right.

Take care and enjoy hour day. I enjoyed the read.
