To Protect Our Land
My name is Jamie Lee Hamann and I started sharing poetry articles back in 2013. Every year I share a poem a day in April.
To Protect Our Land
Celebrating on the Day of Harvest
we pray an end to violence in our day
then we dance as if nothing left to say
we eat we play until we need to rest.
So grateful for the food and for the peace
when all around the world stands on its head
our crops are dense to keep the family fed
we soon will find our livestock will increase.
No chattering of war upon our lips
and cheerful we have place to go at night
a dock where silent boats will end fair glide.
So drink your wine and savor every sip
this lucky year we did not have to fight
with extra crop we can sell on roadside.
But castles with lofty towers need Arms
to protect banner from being captured
and save our family from being fractured
to hide from world our livestock and farms.
Let trumpets woo us to the wall and dare
us find some pleasure in this war storming
the front where bloody combat is coming
to battle soldiers with thousand mile stare.
Our life is splendid without surrender
each soldier thinks the pay to fight is fair
until the day they have to march away.
To fight for place upon this rocks splendor
but will lose capability to care
to fight to live and die another day.
