Fires and ruins in the city
Houses are down, what a pity!
Life was killed near the sea
Where the sun has disappeared
Angels left their sweet home
Away from the deadly storm
Where tears comes from afar
Resting on the broken car
Desperate souls in the night
Asking around: is there a light?
Screaming out on the ground
Fighting to hear a sound
A little child, there she stands
Come, give us your hands
Make the move, there you are
A hero with beautiful eyes
But why do you ask of these?
There is no moment to waste here
For death is of great speed
So run away my dear...
Run and come back after a while
When you will wake up and find
The sun and the sea on the right
And Beirut.... On the bright side!
Joyce Bou Charaa (author) from Lebanon on August 14, 2020:
Thank you Lorna for your beautiful words
Lorna Lamon on August 14, 2020:
After the terrible destruction I hope that Beirut will be rebuilt and people can heal from all the carnage. This is a touching tribute, beautifully written and heartfelt.
