To All Of You

Kari enjoys writing poetry. There is a certain freedom in poetry because you don't always have to follow the rules.

I was never good at writing letters.

I was never good at writing letters.

Lost Friends

I have lived in many places since my birth. I have met people who are astounding. However, I lived before internet and was not good writing letters. I didn't call them very often because of long-distance charges. (Yes, that was a thing, and it was expensive.)

I miss those many friends and for them I wrote this poem.

To All Of You

To all of you

I left behind

Feel not left apart.

A piece of you

Lives forever

Now within my heart.

I hope that I

Am with you, too.

As you travel

Paths you choose.

For ties that bind,

Through space and time

Anchor us together.

Eric, Thank you so much, that means a great deal to me. Your poor daughter, I hope everything is well with her.

You are talented and successful in sharing your thoughts using few words.

Eric Dierker from Spring Valley, CA. U.S.A. on September 23, 2020:

Kari, perhaps you should publish them. They resonate in a way to help us think more deeply and that to my mind is a loving gift. Yes I know the personal returns may seem tough. If you want tough, my daughter is a political operative less than a mile from the capitol building she is in the thick of this.

You add well to discussions that need to be.

Thank you, Dora. I read this one to myself when I'm feeling down.

Dora Weithers from The Caribbean on September 22, 2020:

Beautiful thoughts easing the pain of separation. Very caring and thoughtful!

Eric, I thought you would like this better. I had something to publish today but then I checked myself. My vow is to live my life showing God's love. There are a couple of things I've written lately that don't show love. I yelled at myself and vowed to do better. You helped me with your comments, thank you!

FlourishAnyway, One found me. She is a wonderful woman and called me one day. She found me on Facebook. Recently, I closed all my Facebook accounts. I would not even know how to begin.

Eric Dierker from Spring Valley, CA. U.S.A. on September 21, 2020:

I like this a whole lot. Just so accurate. I really enjoy seeing an old buddy not talked to in years and we just pick right up like no big deal.

My mom and I would write each other every week for years. She would send me twenty bucks sometimes with a note that just said; Call.

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on September 20, 2020:

Yes, long-distance charges used to be expensive. We indeed carry memories of people in our hearts when apart. I enjoyed your poem.

I encourage you to try to get back in touch with those who meant a lot to you. Recently a high school friend who moved away before graduation contacted me and she wants to come visit for a weekend. It made me so happy. I hope you reach out to people who meant something to you even if it’s just to tell them you’ve been thinking of them. Life is short.
