Those Were The Days
I was sitting around one day thinking about life back in the day. I started making a list of what daily life was like way back when. Well one thing led to another and I created this poem. I know the list is not an exhaustive one. The list also led to a compilation of longer poems which I will post sometime later. I hope you enjoy the poem and it sparks some memories for you.
Drive in movies, Happy Days
Pet rocks, metal ice cube trays
45 records, annoying Party lines
Candy cigs, Boones Farm Wine
Books with records, glass bottled pop
Glass Wax stencils, restaurant car hops
Penny candy, tie dyed tees
Looking cool in old blue jeans
A pair of chucks, long haired hippies
Rubix cubes, Black and White TV
A few pet rocks, a mood ring
Remembering life back then
All the things which came and went
Games we played, a simpler life
Every hour seemed time well spent
Those were the days
Studebakers, Black Jack gum
5 and dimes, a little cap gun
A metal lunchbox, Hula hoops,
Hanging at the mall, milk on your stoop
A full tank for $5, American Bandstand,
Roller skate keys, is ABBA a band
8 track tapes, maybe a cassette
A mix tape was always the best
Candid Camera, walk on the moon
Dark Shadows, Laura and Luke
Platform shoes, no seat belts,
Remembering life back then
All the things which came and went
Games we played, a simpler life
Every hour seemed time well spent
Those were the days
Jiffy Popcorn, A Cracker Jack toy
TV Westerns, maybe The Hardy Boys
Rock and roll music, read Dick and Jane
Some Kool Aid or, A glass of Tang
Telephone booths, Leave it to Beave
Remembering life back then
All the things which came and went
