Held-in Tears: A Poem
Laughing on the outside --- crying on the inside
like colorful harlequins some hide their gloom
sitting in that corner of their life's ringside
with silent defeat and a secret doom.
When they laugh to tears it's a disguised sobbing
and laughter is just there to hide it all from others
so that no one knows their sad heart's throbbing
with no way to tell what's really there that bothers.
They learned to cope like heroes of unseen arena
like gladiators against demons of their own make
moving through the life graciously like a ballerina
not allowing any telling tears for their sanity sake.
Magicians at playing a disappearing act
they make pain invisible on a poker face
interacting always with immaculate tact
with just a tattooed furrow as only trace.
So, what's the deal with those uncried tears
could their soul give birth to a life all new
that first baby's cry so soothing to ears
with a new joy overwhelming and true.
Those held in tears now drying in the sun
and romantic heart embracing the moon
turning life around towards laugh and fun
is never too late, and it's never too soon.
