Things We Take For Granted Now

Erick Hernandez rarely writes poetry, but when he does, it is a masterpiece.

Do you take things for granted? Here is a cozy house with everything one needs. Many people take this for granted.

Friends. Family, Life. The Earth. It's all there one minute and gone the next.
Younger generations take those things for granted because they want to.
I used to do that because I thought it was a test
Now I realized that I did not need to do that, and I didn't need you.

Many people say to everybody "treat others the same way they'd like to treat you."
This applies to me as well, because I've treated others the same way.
I've disrespected a lot of people. Men. Women. Friends, too.
My sins for this disrespect will catch up to me like a creeping poison one day.

Oblivious to the fact that I've disrespected everybody, I still did my work.
I already did manage to find an alternative job for me.
Life is but a fleeting moment, soon, I have to start working like a jerk.
Work isn't that simple, even for a guy like me. Ask yourself. Is he?

My advice for you is this, don't take things for granted like most people do.
Because once you're in the real world, trouble will find you and your life, too.

A Quatrain and a Sextet.

Here's a quatrain for you. I know it sounds depressing, but here we go.

Quatrain: My Very Own End

Life's taken for granted way too many times
Wasting a perfect life.
Oh, what a way to end your life with high triglycerides
Or like cutting yourself with a knife.

The first line means that many people take their lives for granted way too many times. Sometimes, the perfect life is wasted in the process. That's what is described in the second line. The third line has something to do with an elevated risk of stroke, but it's ending your life with a risk of stroke. The fourth line is a suicidal one. It involves cutting portions of your own skin with a knife in a suicidal manner.

This sextet is made-up, but is essential to the story.

Sextet: Misery, Sadness and Memes

Don't take things for granted anymore.
The pain will be thorough and extreme.
So sit back and relax as you slowly waste away.
Misery and sadness are all part of lore.
So are any of you famous memes. What's a meme?
A meme most often means success lasts only for a day.

Reasons Why I Made This Poem

When I was younger, I used to take stuff for granted; family, friendships, food, hygiene, and my personal life. That's how I ended up in a group home filled with people who are below me. I also took risks, and that's how I ended up with medicine.

I wanted to inspire people to not take things for granted around here. It seems like the younger generation is interested in social media, like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and others.

Do not take take things for granted. Your family will die one by one. When you're all alone, who's going to defend you? The government? They're obsolete.

        Eric,

You have a lot to say and you do a great job. Stick with it. You know, the nice thing about poetry is that you can get very elusive and no one would be the wiser. Ask Will Shakespeare; it took me years to get some of his works.

        Go for it my friend.

        Sincerely,

        Tim

Yes, that is very true. Alas, people are often taken for granted in this world.
