Things for Happiness

things-i-need-to-be-happy

Some people see billionaire dreams,

Coming up with different strategies,

On a crisp Sunday morning,

With a toast in their hand,

They dream about swimming in money,

Travelling the world until there’s no place left,

Getting tired and coming back to their millionaire place,

That is all they need to be happy,

But as I sit back and wonder,

Collect my thoughts, I think,

I think as for me a warm fluffy blanket and a hug filled with love,

Is all I need to be happy.

As I walk down the streets,

I see people in love, strolling around hand in hand,

Sharing flirtatious comments and open mouthed kiss,

They spend their mornings and their evenings,

Spending days and nights,

Quarrelling and giggling with their honey,

That is all they need to be happy,

So I hum and stride towards my place,

Millions thoughts going in my head,

I hum and wonder; I think,

I think as for me a warm fluffy blanket and a hug filled with love,

Is all I need to be happy.

Children playing in the park, running around and being crazy,

Hitting the ball, stumbling on their feet,

Rushing through the pile of rich golden leaves,

Scattering around as if its funny,

I sit and watch them play on a cold autumn noon,

I feel a smile creep on my face,

As I sit back and wonder,

Collect my thoughts; I think,

Maybe I too can be happy,

Cause all I need is a warm fluffy blanket and a hug filled with love,

To make me happy.

There lives an old grandma on 13th street,

Handing down a pack of treats,

“Cookies everyone!!”

The children playing all rush by,

Nibbling and savouring the pack the treats,

And as I keep walking, I see her calling for me,

And she gives me a treat as I play with the kids,

All sweet and happy is all I feel,

And as time passes by, I bid them farewell,

Thinking about being happy.

Because for some people its billionaire dreams,

And for some people its true love its seems,

As kids keep on playing,

And grandma’s keep baking,

All to make them happy,

But as I sit by the window,

Watching the grey skies and snowfall,

I curl myself and I just wonder,

Collect my thoughts; I think,

I think of being happy,

So I sigh and smile, watching the snow dance by,

Thinking of things that make people happy,

And if you ask me my preference all I would say,

For me its a warm fluffy blanket and a hug filled with love,

To make me happy.

I think it's the simple pleasures in life that make me the happiest. Getting out into the beauty of nature is one of those things. I enjoyed reading this uplifting and thought provoking poem.
