There's a Joy in Surrender

Misbah loves writing poetry. She says poetry is what makes her heart feels warm and light.

He stretched out His hands to me when I sighed, and

In the dark, I was clutching my heart. Hands cupped,

“Tears welled up in my eyes.” Shed, shed, shed some more—more and more.

“Keep shedding endlessly,” my heart urged.

While I sobbed and spoke to Him in silence

My heart rejoiced—I felt like a child,

who smiles when he sees his parents cheering him on.

Who care for him and love him. In my dark room, the light shined.

I got up and played with the light, like a child chasing a butterfly.

Like spring flowers blooming after a long winter.

As if, a rainbow appeared and the sun shone after a heavy rain.

At that time of night, I bowed my head to the ground.

While prostrating, I felt great joy.

'O Allah, I surrender,' I said to my Lord in prostration.

Who else understands what I am going through?

You are the only ‘One’ I can always rely on.

I thank You, my Lord, for putting me through trials and tribulations.

These things have brought me back to You.

I can see clearly again after being blinded by worldly pleasures.

I'm certain, you're the Greatest Writer.

I won't haggle over what you've given me;

After all, you know very well what's best for me.

As I read in the Qur'an, “with difficulty comes ease”.

Dear God, I trust in what you've told me. I trust you blindly!

Help me and ease my pain, I Love you dearly.

The beauty of the believer is that he will always return to his Lord, no matter how difficult the situation is. God is the only 'One' on whom he can always rely on.
