Darling

the_free_woman

This is a story of a town and people
A prose of a woman
A poem of both.

She went by many names but my favourite was darling.
She lived on the downside of town
Not because she couldn't afford the plusher side
But because she was refused a place there
Instead of moan and despair over the rejection
She took it in stride
And carved a place for herself downtown

They called her a harlot
Her red lipstick
Boldness
Her long lashes
Unabashed
Her long manicured nails
Confidence
She didn't walk
She glided
She didnt sit
She perched
Elegantly

Mother said she was no good
But i have seen the way she looks at her
Jealously
Daddy said i shouldnt never grow up and be like her
But i have seen the way he looks at her
Lustfully

She and i had chat once
Darling
We talked about life
Love
And freedom
And of things no one talks to me about
She told me how true beauty is of the mind
How true freedom
Is of the things you could do
Or say
But never say
Because you are at peace.

And with a laugh she said,
You are going to be just like me
Free.
