The Wisdom of Kindness

Lorna is a published writer with a particular interest in narrative poetry, which she finds therapeutic.

the-wisdom-of-kindness

It takes an ever-loving spirit to lighten the burden

Of the many storm-swept souls seeking respite

From the troubled waters of cold indifference

Where the warmth of kindness in a smile of caring

Nourishes those tiny seeds of hope in a lonely heart

Within these vast regions of sorrow the influence

Of a thoughtless word is like a blow to the soul

Felt by those who crave the need for compassion

Where the true signature of an unconditional love

Are words that heal and give our own lives meaning

A kindness given and forgotten will always return

On gentle wings of gratefulness whose disguise

Is wrapped in the tender embrace of understanding

Where the language of love overwhelms the world

With a conscience that stirs as it touches our hearts

As passing seasons drift into quiet contemplation

Where the truth is discerned within life’s rhythms

Hidden amongst the beauty of earth’s simplicity

Held in the hands of Mother Nature whose kindness

Allows us to live with the world beating in our hearts

The echoes of an inner voice reflect our values

Residing within the very essence of our existence

As it challenges the many prejudices that constrict

The openness of our minds to the joy of a heart

That has discovered the wisdom of kindness

Beautiful composition, with words of wisdom.

‘A kindness given and forgotten, will always return—-‘ This is so true. Kindness and compassion should come from our heart, and not for some selfish gains.

As they say, what you give to others, comes back to you.

As always, beautifully expressed with carefully and handpicked words.

Thanks for sharing.

Ankita B on September 21, 2020:

Exquisite poetry as always. I loved it.

Lora Hollings on September 21, 2020:

This is such a remarkable poem with such a profound message, Lorna. Kindness gives meaning to our existence. We enrich others' lives and our own through this virtue. Your beautiful words express the role that kindness plays in helping others to see their worth and in so doing, we rise to a much higher spiritual level as well. Thank you for such a meaningful and inspiring poem!

Rosina S Khan on September 21, 2020:

Exquisite and remarkable poetry, Lorna. Your poem reminds me of two lines from Reader's Digest, Asian Edition:

When I was younger, I admired clever people

Now that I am older, I admire kind people.

My fave verse in the poem is:

A kindness given and forgotten will always return

On gentle wings of gratefulness whose disguise

Is wrapped in the tender embrace of understanding

Where the language of love overwhelms the world

With a conscience that stirs as it touches our hearts

You weaved simple words into great poetry and that is definitely indicative of your extra talent. Thank you for sharing.
