The Value in a Smile

Lorna is a published writer with a particular interest in narrative poetry, which she finds therapeutic.

the-value-in-a-smile

It’s the joy that is freely given

To gladden the troubled mind

Chasing away the shades of grey

That can sometimes make us blind

It can lighten the burden of others

As the warmth of its rays never wanes

Touching the hearts of the lonely

Stealing away their pain

It appreciates the beauty of nature

Filling the darkness with light

And for all who come into its presence

It’s a comforting place of respite

It’s the hope that will be there forever

With an understanding all of its own

Touching you with the power of its beauty

In the knowledge you are never alone

It crosses the barriers of prejudice

In a world that is not always kind

As it cuts through the anger of ignorance

Allowing compassion to shine

It lifts up your spirits on the darkest day

When you feel you can’t run the last mile

It awakens your heart and touches your soul

The value in a smile

Hi Patricia and I agree all it takes is a simple gesture like a smile. Thank you for visiting and your kind comments. I love Angels.

Patricia Scott from North Central Florida on November 20, 2019:

Absolutely. A simple gesture that can turn someone's day around---like the person crouching on the floor stocking shelves or the person mopping the floor as we race by. It is heart-warming to see the reaction when a smile is flashed their way. thank you for sharing. Angels are headed your way this afternoon. ps

So true. I like to do yoga to keep strong and the girl leading me is constantly reminding to pull down our shoulders, lengthen the neck, and turn up the corners of the mouth. It is a good reminder to smile. It is so contagious. When I smile at people I almost always get one in reply. Thanks for the reminder.

Blessings,

Denise

Happiness is not what we need to search for....it is always there in the littlest things....just a little smile can brighten our surroundings, the people around, us and this life....it is a simple art which is always there...only requiring us to dip our brushes in it and paint the blend....A very sweet and meaningful verse Lorna...with a message that needs to be spread...Thank you for sharing....and as the verse goes keep smiling !...!
