Woke up this morning with a plan that didn't come true

Not even close to the introduction of the ideas

Planned to go out strong and leave them hanging for more

Confidence and the illusion of taking charge of what was ahead

Not looking at what was in the rearview mirror

Didn't turn out as well as intended; not even close

Was once on top of the world at 7:00 AM

Down in the gutter by 9:30 AM on the dot

What a difference a few hours makes to someone's self esteem

Allowed to get brought down by a Nigerian pretender

Nice and sweet on the surface; with a Mean Girls twist underneath

Minus the impeccable writing of Tiny Fey to sweeten the blowback

Wondering what's the point of trying to be kind to someone

Who doesn't deserve it and loved to push you in the dirt

Getting fed up eating mother's nature breakfast with a smile

And turning the other cheek every helping of it

Tired of getting pushed to the brink by people

Who enjoy to push buttons and twist the knife further

Digging for gold when they discover the anxiety of others

Long suppressed fears brought to light over pointless conversations

About absolutely nothing; just like every Seinfeld episode

People who pretend to be friendly to your face

And mock your very existence when your back is turned

Hypocrites who thrive on stepping on others in their stilettos

Laughing about it all the way to the bank as they wipe the blood off

Surveying the damage with a false sense of psychotic accomplishment

Ready to fight back against the tyranny of others who think they're in control

They're another rat lost in the same lousy race as you

Bought some Timberland boots to climb through the muck and mire of corporate life

Sticking my head in the proverbial sand for most of the day

Only coming up for air, food, water and sunlight

That's it.

No more being a solicitous colleague to those who don't deserve it.

This nervous Nellie has more on their plate to contend with anyways.

Time to look forward, not back.
Time to look forward, not back.
