The Sweet-Sour Experiences of Life—Poem

I value the light, because I have experienced the darkness;

I value the joys, because I have experienced the sorrows;

I value the kindness, since I have experienced the cruelty;

I value the pleasures, since I have experienced the pain.

You will value the good (behaviour), if you have seen the bad (behaviour);

You will value the highs, if you have experienced the lows;

You will value the abundance, if you have experienced scarcity;

You will value the union, if you have experienced separation.

Failures can lead you to success; (believe me),

Disappointments can lead you to accomplishments;

Adversities can lead you to prosperity; because—

Sadness and happiness are two sides of the same coin.

Joys and sorrows are part of life

Joys and sorrows are part of life

This is such a wonderful poem that really speaks to my heart about the highs and lows in life and going with the flow! We will never have perfect lives but we can experience joy and have very fulfilling ones if we decide not to let the bumps in the road get us off our course and to see that the journey in life is made up off a lot of little steps. We can choose to dwell on the unhappy times or on the joyful ones. It is up to us to decide. We can choose happiness or unhappiness. Your poem is a beautiful illustration of this principle. I loved the videos too! Many blessings to you.

Nell Rose from England on October 15, 2019:

Your poem is so beautiful and true to life. When we think about things like joy, we have to admit that we might not know what joy is unless we have experienced what it means to not have joy.

Chitrangada Sharan (author) from New Delhi, India on August 10, 2019:

Thank you MsDora, for your wonderful comments.

I am sure, many would be able to relate to this. When I look back, I can say that my life has been a combination of many positives, but the negatives were always there around. We learn to balance them gradually with the age and experience.

Thanks for reading and appreciating. Always a pleasure to hear from you. Thank you.

Dora Weithers from The Caribbean on August 08, 2019:

Well done, Chitrangada! Your poem speaks to the experiences of many and your conclusion is one that we often neglect to consider, but you brought home the truth beautifully.

Thank you Peggy, for your thoughtful comments.

You are right that those who have lived well, must have seen many ups and downs to achieve, whatever they have earned in their lives.

Thanks for reading and commenting.

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on August 07, 2019:

What you have written is so very true. Anyone who has lived long enough has probably seen both sides of the coin.

Thanks Venkatachari Ji, for reading and commenting on this poem.

You are absolutely right and You explained it so well. This has added more value to the poem.

We should be able to embrace the negatives, in the same manner, as we welcome the positives.

Thank you so much for sharing your valuable thoughts. It’s always good to hear from you.

Venkatachari M from Hyderabad, India on August 07, 2019:

Very well said, Chitrangada. It's a true underlying fact of the life that every positivity gets balanced with some negativity and vice-versa. The entire universe is a composition of a plus and minus powers just like the electric power. So, don't get discouraged or disappointed but keep hugging both.

Chitrangada Sharan (author) from New Delhi, India on August 07, 2019:

Rightly said, Shaloo.

Thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts.

This is just a reflection of our day, today life and it’s struggles. We have to toil hard to achieve our goal, until we succeed in that. But, then the pleasure of success is so much sweeter that we forget our pains. Life is like that.

Thank you so much for always encouraging me. May God Bless You.

Chitrangada Sharan (author) from New Delhi, India on August 07, 2019:

This poem said it all, Chitrangada. Wise words that we should all take to heart. We need to experience the sour of life so we can truly appreciate the sweet.

Dana Tate from LOS ANGELES on August 06, 2019:

Wonderful!

When I read this I thought "Now I see what wholeness means." You're right. It is because of the sour, the sweet tastes so much better.
