The Soft Life

It is a simple life
If you will only let it
You need not shout
For sincerity is a whisper
Forget anything except your place
In the lives of your children
And your parents
For your need not want for more
What praise is beyond fleeting?
What words are not forgotten?
But what love does not last?
Only that which you pursue
It is in the heart that you can touch
With your life
And your own blood
That is what will last
As will humility that is genuine
And honesty
For though these things are as spare
As arrogance is intemperate
You will feel what is meant by life
Wheat fields bent by the breezes
Softness that will gently comfort
Those who you love
And quietly conquer
Those who do not suffer your need
For their approval
