The Shallow Waters of a Lake on a Summers Day
The Shallow Waters of a Northern Lake
On the shallow waters where the birds do swim
the dogs look on.
Sun rays sharpen the white of the swans as the dogs look on.
Men with motor boats, just their toys,
as they are still just little boys
disturbed the stillness serene
as they circled their boats in between.
Gulls gliding over everyone in sight
Children chanting in delight.
Bags once had bread now billowing
in the wind as the dogs look on.
A fisherman frustrated by all this doing.
No fish for him today.
The man with the sailing boat now gone.
Two brave dogs ventured in
and chased a swan.
The smooth still waters
are silent again as swans and gulls
together all swim and the dogs look on.
