Introduction to Rhythm of Stillness

We are in the middle of our summer. The humidity is high. The pain within is high. There is no felt relief anywhere.

This is a poem about stillness. That is, when life is at a standstill together with the standstill of inner pain.

Rhythm of Stillness

I don’t know

what to do

I feel like expelling

these ill feelings

that sway

to their own internal rhyme

the humidity

is suffocating

the air hangs

so still and stagnate

that the dervish spin

of the floor fan

is barely heard

how do I feel?

how do I desire to be?

is like walking

a tightrope of tension

mixing urgency

with restlessness

manifesting a spiked spear

throughout my limbs

the body

we take for granted

high stress

screams a high pain

footsteps imprinting

the circumference of the floorplan

the mind desires to fire

words as poisonous darts

to hurt those

that brought in the suffering

the heart is overloaded

with struggle

I can’t stay

or walk away

inner parachutic

volcanic flames

ice over

like fine sheets

of blue ice

that act as a tight drum

of thick skin

to camouflage

the searing pain

that is cutting up the heart

the spirit is clinging desperately

to the familiar

and the generous

but it feels now

that all that was

has been rendered

null and void

I am null and void

I feel

That would feel unsettling. I hope you found your way today.

There are times I feel that I am rushing forward too fast and then I wish to retreat back into my comfort zone but not always can I find it when I want to .

Elijah, like you mentioned life is full of paradoxes.

I just hope to share one perspective at one point in time. This may be a personal truth or it can be my personal illusion.

However, a part of the joy in creating poetry is that somehow I can take you to the tarmac so that you can get to the take off point. Then the sky is yours. That is, the truth (or illusion) that follows is uniquely yours.

Welcome Marie. It's been a long time. No, poetry is not for everyone and that is okay. However, I am happy you found something in this poem for you.

You might think that Spirit is searching for the very new. And maybe that is so. But somehow I felt that my soul (spirit) wants the solidness of what was. All the best to you Eric and your family.

The funny thing about stillness, Charmaine (I hope you don't mind my using your name), is it is an illusion. Nothing is ever still for without motion existence can not maintain itself from the smallest even to the largest aspect of it. That makes the "rhythm of stillness" to be "a motion that all physical sense perceptions are unable to detect's movement" that would include feelings, sounds, tastes, sight and smell.

I have to admit I am not into poetry much, but yours is enchanting.

Pretty good one to read at least twice but both times this hit me "the spirit is clinging desperately

      to the familiar"
