The Return (a Poem)

I stood patiently waiting for you,

my face peeking out the door.

The sound of my footsteps heavy,

across the worn out floor.

The time that you were gone,

oh baby it was so hard.

But I played the hand life gave us,

even though I didn't like the cards.

I remember everything about you,

your touch, your hair, your face.

The memory of your kiss that

could never be erased.

I held tight to the memories,

I never let them go.

Its all I had to hold onto,

because I love you so.

I see the car pull up the drive,

I see your face appear.

I run and hold you close to me,

so warm, so tight, and so near.
