The Relic Fort

Author:
the-relic-fort

The walls stand high and hefty
In the ancient fort
Where each brick laid
Has a story to unfold.

The giant magnificent structure
Commended for its architectural excellence
Carries along it many tales across centuries
Both of victory and defeat.

The many bewildering passageways
Some tapered and some large
Withholds the anecdote of
Many beginnings and ends.

The mesmerising relic
Which once stood guarded
Is now a place abandoned
With significant antiquity.

I love your poem. It reminds me quite a bit of William Carlos Williams "The Red Wheelbarrow". No poetry but in things, as Williams once said. Without the castle, there would be no poem. Loved it. Can't wait to read more of your work.

You accurately convey a picture through your carefully chosen words. There's something enigmatic and mysterious about an old fort that spans many years and has witnessed many historical events. I am intrigued to about the illustration you have used.

Danny from India on July 27, 2020:

This poem reminds me of my trip to a fort in South India. Forts have something unique about them, and it always intrigues us. The resources then to built and the skill level are things to ponder.

Lorna Lamon on July 27, 2020:

I feel that there is a story within the walls of these ancient forts. Your poem has a mystical feel of the past and present. Loved it.
