The Neighborhood Children
I can't seem to stop writing poetry or reading poetry. I think it is safe to say I love poetry and I love sharing great poetry with others.
There once was a kid from Missouri
who decided to live off Curry
tried it all in one day
taking time off from play
now groans with each ache in his belly.
There once was a kid from the West Coast
wanted to be the kid with the most
wanted everything gold
everything new not old
ended up eating only burnt toast.
There once was a kid from Ohio
who worked on her Venus de Milo
she sculpted with her heart
this artist from the start
even though it was made from playdoh.
There once was a kid from Kentucky
who was known for being quite plucky
he would skip to his class
for Kentucky Bluegrass
the other kids thought he was lucky.
There once was a kid from Wisconsin
who tried running amok like Huck Finn
with a cow named Daisy
who thought he was crazy
as they journeyed out past the grain bin.
There once was a kid from the city
who would sneak out to paint graffiti
on her parents table
a colorful label
when finished she would chase the kitty.
There once was a kid from the country
who ate all the food in his pantry
back to the store with Mom
as she remained quite calm
as they found the front door through laundry.
To the children who have made this mess
within every nook more or less
just keep playing all day
we will clean when its May
this is crazy extended recess.

Hey Jamie. I like that the poem explored children from different places and the humour you added. Nice poem especially the part with the burnt toast and playdoh. What's good is children enjoy simple things.

Love your limericks Jamie. And your beautiful children! You've captured the childhood essence wonderfully. I grew up in a family of five siblings, and it was much like this.
