The Mucky Floors

Hallowed ground to step on
Macabre fates to tumble across
Breathless parakeets and dusty streets
A dark shadow emerges to fulfill needs.

Cobwebs and grease cover the shore
of a tortured sea and its living souls
The level is filled with glorious weeds
of death and doom throughout the streets.

Rusty ends of a silent roof
Tilted face and a cradled vice
Catastrophic business of crime
Karma sleeps on a blackened light.

Hateful verses of religious fiends
Verbal abuse and physical stings
Fanatics in power and excuses screened
Neither is wrong nor right in their deeds.

The terrible times seem to be the perfect space for opportunists in addition to the already painstricken conditions. That makes it worse.

BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on September 05, 2020:

That seems to be the case. No one believes what they do is wrong.

These times we live in have taken a toll on many.

Excuses will not make things right.

This paints a gloomy picture of the world. Each line is rich in meaning.

Tiyasha Maitra (author) from Gurgaon on August 03, 2020:

Thanks John.

You are right. People should concentrate their efforts on being there for each other as a community. Instead all we hear are complaints and blame games. On top of that politicians are using this horrible turn of events this year to blame oppposing parties.

John Hansen from Gondwana Land on August 03, 2020:

What a powerful statement your poem makes, Tiyasha. These are troubling times and it seems everyone is playing the blame game instead of finding the solution. Love our use of words.

Tiyasha Maitra (author) from Gurgaon on August 02, 2020:

Thank you everyone for the lovely comments.

Lora, you have captured the essence perfectly in your analysis.

Our world is in grave danger, more than the virus it's in trouble because of the greed and lakh of compassion.

Hope everybody is safe and healthy.

Jeshurun from Nellore AP India on August 02, 2020:

Good Composition....

Lora Hollings on August 02, 2020:

What a poignant poem you have written, Tiyasha, about our present reality. Our world maybe on the verge of collapse if we don't make big changes now! If we refuse to face the mess that we have created and take responsibility for electing leaders who couldn't care less about the people, and who are obsessed with insatiable greed and power, then our future becomes a bleak one. Instead of truth and enlightenment, corruption and devastation will prevail.

Lorna Lamon on August 02, 2020:

It's good to see you Tiyasha and your poem is a powerful reminder of terrible times. Take care.

Ankita B on August 02, 2020:
