Courage

The movie BlindSide is a story based on a true story of an American Baltimore Ravens left tackle, Michael Oher (Ovintin Aaron). He is a teen who is big physically and an African American.

Michael grew up in the housing projects. His mother is a drug addict and he doesn’t know who his father is. Michael has little education as he drifts in and out of the educational system.

A stranger and her family (Sandra Bullock) comes into his life and takes him in and turns his life right around so that he becomes a living success.

A quote I focused on to create my poem Mountain Flower from goes like this: - courage is hard to figure. You can have courage based on a dumb idea or a mistake, but you are not supposed to question adults, or your coach, or your teacher because they make the rules. Maybe they know best but maybe they don’t. It all depends on who you are where you come from. Blindside.

I hope you enjoy my poem about courage.

Mountain Flower: Courage

you climb the mountain everyday

for the small and big gainsay

resting shakily on the incline

of a calcareous gorge hard-line

legs shaking on the daring steep

you’re on the face of the mountain sweep

that yells with a thunderous curt voice

speaking volumes of choice

you are bulldozed bourgeois

to action for rejoice

you are ambushed

near death, just a little push

you are like the mountain climber

who has fallen to his death

like a two-timer

as he reaches for

the mountain flower

on the cliffside explored

Source

sometimes you just have to stop and rest

pausing on your show of courage behest

even though you are still

terrorized and brow beaten to the hill

through the menacer’s Will

all I know we have one life

maybe there is an afterlife

I just don’t know that still life

don’t let your courage

hide away in the remoteness of damage

in the snow tipped mountains of pilgrimage

perhaps it’s time to be the mountain flower

sacrificing the certainty of cower

in exchange for becoming an adventurer with firepower

let the trembling light hairs

whisper hope to the leaves despair

so that the petals of the mountain flower

doesn’t fall back to sweet and sour

perhaps you can laugh your way

showing you are relaxed, pretending to obey

so that you can disarm

the reigning snake charmer

the double star of the white mountain flower

reflects a simplicity of Willpower

unlike the fixed glittering smile

and silky words of guile

that comes from the hectoring biled

vixen who is beyond reconcile

Source

mountain flower

reflects her courage through waterpower

having the now and again pluck

to be the Braveheart that holds back the Mac Truck

while white and woolly

the mountain flower truly

is the sun of the mountain fully

her leaves may tremble

with self-consciousness perceptible

yet her roots grip the earth with irreversibility

Don’t Give In

Don’t Give Up

Dear Charmaine. I like how you can demonstrate courage through the example of a mountain flower. :) Indeed, the mountain flower is brave for being on top of a mountain. The poem structure is continuous like a mountain, suits the title well. :)

I too prefer poetry with pauses rather than each thought or line running into each other. Appreciate the feedback eric. Peace and happiness to you.
