The Memorable Month of May

Poetry is turning out to be a very cathartic medium, I should do this more often.

Set the Mood

Down to 228 from 260! Wooo!

Down to 228 from 260! Wooo!

Sunny day, oh sunny day,

All our friends are out to play.

What more could I say,

About this lovely month of May?

My rose bush is in full bloom,

Despite the threat of COVID doom.

Sun washes away all rainy gloom,

So does COVID continue to loom.

Words of strangers straight to the heart,

Fiery friendships did end and start.

Painted ladies with lips so tart,

You’d best avoid them if you’re smart.

So we make our way to the park,

Whistling the tune of baby shark.

You know our tans are becoming stark,

We can’t help but admire the skin so dark.

Calling my name, who could it be,

Should I turn and look to see?

When I did so, filled with glee,

At the sight of a woman staring at me.

It was my love, the one so true,

The one who stuck, just like glue.

She comes along for adventure too,

With her, no loss for what to do.

Skipping and jumping and maybe we fly,

COVID-19 won’t be poking our eye.

Maybe there’s some hoping we die,

But their bitter taste has me laugh ‘til I cry!

Definitely Memorable

Gaining friends, losing friends, COVID-19, and all the other wonders that May has brought are definitely quite memorable. Can't remember the last time I had such an eventful month, one with so many ups and downs in such a short period of time. Heck, I even have some plans for the near future, the type of which I haven't made in quite some time.

Gotta keep pushing through the muck and riding this roller coaster we call life!

You've done justice to the sweet memories of May. Enjoyable!

Kyler J Falk (author) from California on May 11, 2020:

I'm so happy that my poem could inspire your smile, Ann, it is most definitely something we need to be striving for always and forever, inspiring one another's smiles!

Highly appreciate your compliments and reading!

Ann Carr from SW England on May 11, 2020:

I love the month of May, when Spring is truly showing everywhere and everything comes alive - and so has Covid, sadly. It's also my birthday month so of course I love May! I have learnt a lot about human nature over the last few months too.

Great poem. It made me smile and that's what we need - right now and always.

Kyler J Falk (author) from California on May 10, 2020:

A very eventful month, Pamela, and I do feel I've had more than my fair share of it but it just keeps on coming! Nothing to do but take it in stride.

Thanks for reading, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on May 10, 2020:

Ups and downs are definitely part of life but it sounds like you might have had more than your fair hare. I liked your poem very much.

Thank you, Suchismita, I'm glad I could capture the beauty of this of this May as it has been thus far!

Beautiful lines ...

John Hansen from Queensland Australia on May 09, 2020:

Yep have done the Internet video chat thingy.

Kyler J Falk (author) from California on May 09, 2020:

@Lorna: Hahahaha I would never have even considered the lack of sun in Ireland, Lorna, but I do hear that stereotypical joke quite often. In fact I had no idea you were Irish! I'm happy you enjoyed this little piece, and yes my plans for the future are very welcomed and a nice change of pace to my otherwise lackadaisical days.

Thanks for reading!

Kyler J Falk (author) from California on May 09, 2020:

@John: That sounds like a very interesting and unique set of family birthdays, John, how'd you guys manage to pull that off? Coincidence? I suppose in lieu of celebrating your birthdays together we can celebrate getting to have a birthday at all; maybe you guys could all sing happy birthday to each other over an internet video chat!

@Ruby: Thank you so much, it has been a rough ride on this weight loss journey but slowly I am going to bring it down to 190! Three pounds down in the month of May already!

That much needed sun is coming your way, Ruby, keep on trucking!

Lorna Lamon on May 09, 2020:

This is my favourite time of year with summer just around the corner (yes even in Ireland we see the sun now and again). Your poem is full of life with all its ups and downs Kyler. It's good to see you have plans for the future and that is the main thing.

John Hansen from Queensland Australia on May 08, 2020:

Nice poem celebrating the month of May. May is always an eventful month for myself, as my birthday, my wife's, and two of our sons' all fall within a week between the 6th and 13th. Occasionally we have a joint celebration, but this year we haven't been able to get together for obvious reasons. Cheers.

Ruby Jean Richert from Southern Illinois on May 08, 2020:

I like your rhyme! Congrats. on the weight loss. I'm looking forward to more sun too. Have a good one.
