The Melanin Poem
What is your stance in life?
Do you want to live or die?
How the hell do you want to be?
Do you want to laugh or cry?
Will you hustle to make it from the slum?
Or will you give up and choose grave and the gun?
How will your child remember you?
Will he feel proud thinking about what you do?
Will you leave him to the streets and the men in blue?
Or will you love and care him like a real father do?
The rhythm of the world is yours man
The vibrations of melanin no one else will understand
You don’t have to become a government statistic anymore
You were built from a lineage of greatness and so much more
Ye father of blackness, hold thy son hand and let him be awake
Ye mother of blackness, honor your husband and let the Union be great
Children of the sun, love thy self and your brothers
Be the protector of the children and grandmothers
The sun shines and glows diamonds upon your skin
Brother, sister, next of kin.
Be the great nation, the nation truly ordained
Lift yourself up and show the world how true kings reign.
