Daybreak Magnolias

A free verse Sonnet

Touched by an Ascending Love

I arise at daybreak, in a very special place.

Dawn churns its beauty in my Spirit;

I feel touched by an ascending Love.

The smile of an immaculate child enchants me,

My Heart drinks of her sweetness,

Flooding my core with an illumining Light.

As the butterfly emerges from its cocoon,

Hovering above a garden of magnolias,

So too, my soul – like an eagle –

Soars into the lap of infinity’s Peace.

Immersed into the rhapsody of Silence,

I hear the song-birds’ ballad, telling

Of the glories of man, descending into

An arena of struggle, in quest of Love.

Wisdom-quote from the Master

"Inside each one of us is a beautiful flower garden. This is the garden of the soul. With each lesson we learn, the garden grows. As we learn together, our individual gardens form a tranquil paradise." -Sri Chinmoy.

A free verse Sonnet

La Playa Del Alma

She hugs my feet, her imprints as real,

As my habits of millennia.

Her velvety smoothness lays bare my soul;

I reflect in solitude, on this magical moment.

Her Spirit speaks of the beauty of man;

The bewilderment of nature,

Giving solace to this sacred flame.

Her crisp fragrant aroma kisses my cheeks;

The ebb of her tide dances beneath my toes.

Sunset glimmers on her surrounding waters –

A pendulum of waves –

Washing the impediments off her lustre.

Love floods my being, Her breath

Cleansing my shadows, to set me free indeed.

Manatita, The Lantern Carrier. 7th August, 2018.

Wisdom-quote from the Master

"True inner joy is self-created. It does not rely on any outer circumstances. A river is flowing in and through you, carrying the message of joy. This divine joy, is the sole purpose of life." -Sri Chinmoy

Devika, great to see you.

A great many of my poetry are deceiving. I'm speaking metaphorically of the soul ... of life, using beach and water images. Thank you so much!

Devika Primić from Dubrovnik, Croatia on August 20, 2020:

I see that you have put the words together in a great emotion here. To someone special and most interesting to read about here. A well written and expressed rite up.

manatita44 (author) from london on September 11, 2018:

Yes Li Jen.

We all have an inner garden. You have many beautiful flowers. Continue to water them well. Haha.

Li-Jen Hew on September 11, 2018:

Hi Manatita, nice quote...inner garden in all of us. When I read your poem, I was thinking, if we just close our eyes and recite it, it's like a form of meditation. Each word, we appreciate its meaning more. I can understand why the soul flies like a butterfly. :) I can already smell the sweet fragrance of the poem. Thanks for sharing.

manatita44 (author) from london on August 30, 2018:

Thank you so much!! I'm happy that you are happy and rejoice in your happiness. Nature is a very powerful and charming friend.

Isn't Mount Carmel biblical? Awesome!

Mary Norton from Ontario, Canada on August 30, 2018:

Manatita, thank you for sending me the email. I don't know how I missed this but I did. I don't know what to say as you have captured so much of the inner soul in me. I love magnolias and I have a beautiful plant in our old house the memory of which is always in my mind. Part of my name Carmel is a secret garden. I will always treasure this.

manatita44 (author) from london on August 14, 2018:

Thanks Dora.

It's good to know that it brings some comfort … some solace. I'd love to soar, like the eagle. One day … one day.

Dora Weithers from The Caribbean on August 14, 2018:

In the first poem, the ascent takes me with it, flying like the eagle towards the light. I appreciate the ascent which brings me back to reality, but better prepared for the struggle. There is also a thrilling experience in the sonnet. Both refreshing!

manatita44 (author) from london on August 11, 2018:

Thanks Rajan.

I just commented on them. So fresh! So exquisite! So touching to the Spirit! Om Shanti!

manatita44 (author) from london on August 11, 2018:

Yes, Alicia. Theý enhance the poetry. I chose daffodils but the photo of the magnolias was so enchanting, that I couldn't resist changing.

You are a lover of all things redolent, like jasmines ... magnolias ... me too.

Rajan Singh Jolly from From Mumbai, presently in Jalandhar, INDIA. on August 11, 2018:

That picture of the magnolias is as beautiful as your tribute. Thank you.

Linda Crampton from British Columbia, Canada on August 11, 2018:

As always, you've created a beautiful tribute with interesting imagery. I love the photo of the magnolias and the reference to the flowers in your poem.

manatita44 (author) from london on August 11, 2018:

What a beautiful statement Michael! You have joined the Love crowd and we are in exalted company.

The Christ, Rumi, my Guruji, Ramakrisha and many more!

Always a joy to hear from you. I believe you are writing a book. Hope it's out. Peace.

Michael Milec on August 11, 2018:

You have made me lost in richness of the poetic language. Subsequent revelation filled my soul :There is nothing greater then love. It is a great force which as soon as fills the earthman, only God will continue to exist because God Is Love.

manatita44 (author) from london on August 11, 2018:

Gratitude to you, John. She seems to be loved by so many! 'Tis a beautiful thing. Have a great Sunday.

John Hansen from Gondwana Land on August 11, 2018:

This is a delightful tribute to Mary. Beautiful words to inspire and lift up. Thank you.

manatita44 (author) from london on August 11, 2018:

Yes Peggy.

Once the soul casts off this tiresome temple, it remembers everything. The problem is that when it returns, it returns with a veil placed by God.

True Freedom, or what we call Salvation in Christianity, removes the veil. Before this happens, work or effort is paramount.

Yes. God is an infinity of vastness. We cannot pin It down. Gratitude, my loving friend.

Yes Linda. Like you. You put so much in your Menu that although I'm hopeless in the kitchen, I still feel it. Service takes so many different forms! Giving from the Heart is everything. Thank you so much!

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on August 11, 2018:

This was particularly beautiful to read. I really liked that "garden of the soul" quote. That video at the end was powerful. We will find out many answers in the life to come that we cannot understand now.

Linda Lum from Washington State, USA on August 11, 2018:

Mary is such a kind soul, always offering praise and kindness. Thank you for sharing her in this way.

manatita44 (author) from london on August 11, 2018:

Sean, Yes, I'm a picture - maker. Lol. Didn't you say that imagination is good? Intuition too. Ha ha.

Much Love to you, my brother, and to your family this weekend. Thank you so much!!

Thank you so much!! Perhaps I've said before, it is essentially because of you that I created the Monday Inspirations. So happy that you get some solace from them. In this sometimes troubled world, we need every little encouragement. God's blessings to the family.

Your contribution is awesome in the sense that your last lines made me laugh. They say that humour is good for the soul. Thank you so much, my Friend.

manatita44 (author) from london on August 11, 2018:

I tend to feel extra softness in your case. So perhaps I've been a little harsh, but I always mean well. It is such a sweet feeling to see and hear from you! To know you are there and again you speak of this 'shift' in Consciousness. So beautiful! The only way to heal the form.

Thank you for your inner beauty … your generous Spirit … for the children and for your sharing. You have my very dear wishes for your happiness … a life of fortitude and a stronger Heart. Much Love to you and family this Saturday.

P.S. I will be in NY this coming Wednesday. It would be nice to see you in Jamaica, Queens. But I would need to ask in NY. It is our annual Pilgrimage. We can have guests, but I would need to ask.

Ioannis Arvanitis from Greece, Almyros on August 11, 2018:

Ascending and descending Love... the Streams which flood our beings! You created amazing pictures for the Soul, my Brother!

Thank you for the peace.

Eric Dierker from Spring Valley, CA. U.S.A. on August 11, 2018:

Beautiful my good friend.

You really got me thinking about longing. (Of course Mary is a favorite sister writer of mine) "Love floods my being, Her breath

Cleansing my shadows, to set me free indeed."

Well I long for that for sure. Although hopefully not expecting an outcome.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on August 11, 2018:

Very lovely, as is Mary! A beautiful way to begin my day, and I thank you my friend.

Peace and love always

Gina Welds from Tampa, Florida on August 11, 2018:

I really needed to see this today. Your imagery was so vivid that I could envision each line, each part of the poems. I recently moved, and over the last few months, I could feel myself going through a spiritual shift. Where I am now I believe is where I needed to be, although the way it happened is not how I expected....although I can see how the universe conspired to make this change happen......Cleansing my shadows, to set me free indeed.
