Rain showers on the leaves

Rain showers on the leaves

Rain bathed leaves are a joy to watch

The First Rain Showers—Poem

The first rain showers of the season,

Do something magical to my senses,

Everyone seems to be smiling,

And for no evident reason.

The green trees and plants,

Move and dance in rhythm,

And look at those twin birds,

Sitting drenched at the tree joint.

The unmistakable fragrance,

Of the rain soaked soil,

And colours all around,

The hearts full of joy,

And the minds free of turmoil.

As I spread my arms wide,

And look towards those dark clouds,

Promising happiness to all,

They groove and move with pride.

I close my eyes and breathe,

Oh! the scent of the greens,

And feel the cool raindrops,

On my face and all over me.

The tiny droplets of the rain,

Pour to wash away all the pain,

With a song in my heart,

I talk to the heavens again!

You have caught the essence of that end to a dry spell. I like how you use "dark clouds" as a promise of happiness-- true, that! So often we think in terms of wanting a blue, sunny, cloudless sky, but too much of that and we dry up and fade away. Your photos are also beautiful and refreshing! I wish for you many days of this refreshment, metaphorically and literally!

Venkatachari M from Hyderabad, India on July 08, 2018:

A very beautiful description of those blissful moments. I can experience it all equally by reading your wonderfully crafted lines. I enjoy getting drenched in those showers often. It provides a blissful happiness in the company of nature. We are experiencing the rain continuously since yesterday early hours with some occasional breaks.

Thanks for bringing forth this wonderful event.

Chitrangita,

Beautiful words that flow like rain

Running down the window pane

Or the scent of the fresh plowed soil

Evident of rain on the farmer’s field

Blessings my friend

You are right, light rain is so much refreshing. Of course heavy rain creates lot of problems. After the intense summer heat in India, rains are so welcome. Good for crops and the various living creatures.
