Poem: The First Demise of Winter

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

The first demise of winter is about her waiting to see the first sign of Spring, the crocus bloom. Her mood is happier just thinking about the crocus peeping their little sprouts out from the ground. Actually emerging among the snow letting her know wintertime is leaving. Spring is on it's way.

The First Demise of Winter

Awaiting the first sign
of Winter’s demise,
to see the crocus bloom.

She thinks of those tiny plants
peeping their little sprouts
out from the ground,
making her mood happier
during this dismal season of winter.

What a sight to see
when they actually emerge among the snow,
blooming in Easter egg colors
as she waits for her favorite bright purple ones to bloom.

Letting her know
wintertime is leaving
giving life to spring,
putting joy in her heart
with a smile of relief.
