The Filth of My Heart

Misbah loves writing poetry. She says poetry is what makes her heart feels warm and light.

Create in me a clean heart, O God.

Create in me a clean heart, O God.

In this poem, the girl is praying to God saying, "Oh God, Change my heart. I know I am sinful, double-minded, and unworthy; however, if You will enter into my life, I will be changed. Make my heart always true. Bless me with truth, honesty, and balance. Change my heart. Cleanse it and purify it. Make it the way, You want it to be. I need You. I am drowning save me don't let me drown this way. You are the only Protector and only You can help me."

Because we are humans, we commit both good and bad deeds. God loves us unconditionally. He is patiently waiting for us to return to Him. He wishes to forgive us. God is the potter, and we are the clay; we would be lost without our master: God. We need Him to lead, guide and direct us. The potter sometimes smoothes the rough edges and sometimes he leaves the fractures and bumps because he knows what will make the vessel look 'perfect.'

I will give them a heart to know Me, for I am the Lord; and they will be My people, and I will be their God, for they will return to Me with their whole heart.

— Jeremiah 24:7

Allah is Everyone's God. Surah Nas is the 114th Surah of the Qur’an. It is titled in English “Mankind” and composed of 6 verses.

Oh, Dear Lord, Change My Filthy Heart

Oh! My Dear God,

Wipe away all the muck and resurrect my lifeless heart.

Make me breathe again, give me a fresh start.

Oh Lord, purify my thoughts, wash the dirt away.

Don't abandon me here, drowning and dropped.

Forgive me, I've spent my entire life trying to dodge

Today, I have nowhere else to turn except You

I have returned, begging you to be saved.

And make me your forever faithful slave.

I've spent my entire life doing exactly what I chose.

Satan and Nafs have always kept me in their control.

I'm sorry for breaking your laws and rules.

I worshiped my 'Nafs' and now I felt like a fool.

Now, I walk the path that will bring me to Deen. (Faith)

I kneel before you, praying to make my heart clean.

You are the potter,

I am the clay,

Mold me and make me,

This is what I pray.

— Vineyard – Change My Heart, Oh God lyrics

I want your name to be etched in my heart.

I am grateful to you forever...

Please my Allah, alter this stagnant heart.

As my heart is gloomy, my eyes remain dry.

Hypocrisy and arrogance do not let me cry.

I'm at your door, pleading for you to let me in.

Don't push me to return to my miserable life of sin.

So, now, change my heart and forgive my faults.

Don't abandon me here, drowning and lost.

Help me, Oh my Lord.

Remove all the filth, revive my lifeless heart.

Make me alive again, give me a fresh start.

I never dealt with anything stronger against me than my own ego; it was one time with me, and one time against me.

Thank you so much, Rozlin. I'm glad you enjoyed it. All we have to do is please Allah. We won't be able to please a single individual if we spend our entire lives, yet we can simply please Allah. The God, the Greatest, and the creator of all that exists. How He raised our standard. Isn't that fantastic? The most simple goal in this life is to please God. He loves us, and we should love Him as well. He is the Most Benevolent, the Most Gracious, the Most Beneficient, and the Most Merciful. He enjoys forgiving. He patiently waits for us to return to him because He Loves.

Allah bless you and your family, dear sister. Ameen!

Take care and stay safe

Blessings and Love to you as always!!

Thank you so much for your very kind and generous comment, Rosualdo. I appreciate it very much. Thanks for sharing more about Psalm 51. In Islam we call David as Dawood. There are little differences between Christianity and Islam regarding David. Muslims believe that David was tested by the God(Allah). Prophet Dawood (a.s) has been mentioned in Quran chapter 38 from verse 17 to 28. You can read more about the difference between two thoughts here:

A very good and close friend of mine just said to me yesterday that sin is a heavy word. You are talking to a loving God who longs to embrace you. It sees no sin. Sin is nothing but an obstacle standing in the way of Truth.

I greatly appreciate your kind words. Much Gratitude!! It's nice to see you in the comment section. Much appreciated!! Have a blessed week ahead!!

Blessings as always!!

Have a great day.

Rosualdo Ponce from Gawad Kalinga Village Ticad, Bantayan, Cebu, Philippines on September 27, 2021:

A wonderful prayer poem, Misbah. Since we cannot clean the filth of our hearts, we should come to God in genuine repentance so that our miry hearts will be clean from its filth. Psalm 51 is David’s genuine repentance after committing the sins of adultery and murder. He came to God for cleansing and purification.

VIDYA D SAGAR on September 26, 2021:

A beautiful poem and prayer, Misbah. What you said is correct, that we humans are prone to good and bad deeds but God, ever so merciful, forgives us and gives us a chance to cleanse our souls through our devotion. I enjoyed reading the poem and the quotes. Thanks for sharing.

The day I gave myself permission to just be a human, with all of the mistakes inherent in being human, was the day I took a giant step towards self-love. I am not perfect, nor will I ever be, and that is fine with me.

Blessings always, my friend, and Happy Sunday to you!

Misbah

It is so true that we often follow the ways of this world.

Yet we want to be forgiven and have God's grace.

We feel like we are not worthy, but God reaches out.

I've written one kind of like this...but I haven't published it on here.

Good write.

Enjoy your Sunday.

Dora Weithers from The Caribbean on September 26, 2021:

Amen to your prayer, Misbah. This is suitable for everyday. I like the fact in your introduction that God sometimes leaves the fractures and bumps after He has forgiven us. There is purpose in that. Good work!
