The Devil Knocked on My Door Again Today

The devil knocked

On my door

Again today

I was waiting for

His return

I saw his

Shadowy dark

Waiting for

My attention

A sudden shock

Of fear

My heart

I knew that

He could

Creep in

Making me

My soul

No return

He patiently

Like he

Always did

With a

Calm control

A reaction

He wanted

A shatter

The walls

An earthquake

Everything within

And around me

I covered my ears

As the dogs

Started to bark

For serenity

I went inside

A deep

Within me

Waiting for the

To subside

For the devil to

Go away

The quiet came

I could step out

Into the sunshine

The phone

Started to ring

It was the devil

Waiting for

This is a feeling that happens to us all at times.

At least you are aware and waiting. For me, it sometimes takes me by surprise until I have a moment to ponder, then I realize the devil is working again.

Gypsy Rose Lee from Daytona Beach, Florida on August 21, 2019:

Most imaginative and creative poetry.

Rinita Sen on August 19, 2019:

I read layers in this poem. It could go so many ways. You paint a vicious picture. I think every reader can fill in with their own stories of whatever the devil stands for in their lives.

Woolie from East Coast Canada on August 19, 2019:

Ever lurking.. well written!

Lorna Lamon on August 18, 2019:

This is a very atmospheric poem and I could feel the pain and fear in the lines.

Ruby Jean Richert from Southern Illinois on August 17, 2019:

Wow, this was a wakeup call for me. I have been there and done that. I hope it was just poetry from you? I could feel the fear in your words.....

Eric Dierker from Spring Valley, CA. U.S.A. on August 17, 2019:

This is really good. I really like the style/method. Do you have a name for it?

On a different note. Give that devil my address and I will open up a can of whoop ass on it.
