The Broken Mirror - Poetry

I grew up in a small community in Northwest Arkansas. My life is a busy balance of family and friends, work and play, good times and bad.

The Broken Mirror

Fractured images
of truths to be told.
The broken mirror
tarnished and old.

A small child tries to hide
in the darkness and cries.
The broken mirror
tells no lies.

Tears of frustration and fear.
Tears of sorrow and pain.
The broken mirror
sees the invisible chain.

Inappropriate touches
with no words to explain.
The broken mirror
reflects the abuse again.

Sexual knowledge
beyond her years.
The broken mirror
dries her tears.

To tell the truth
and punished for lies.
The broken mirror
watches as the child inside dies.

No one believes.
No one to comfort.
The broken mirror
understands the hurt.

Confusion, guilt,
and shame.
The broken mirror
knows who is to blame.

Manda, this is a very very sad but well-written poem. If mirrors (broken or not) could share their secrets.Thank you for sharing.
