Love & Hate

Fall in love once and
Feel the bitterness within.
Hate someone and sense
The emptiness of revenge,
For both of them begets pain.

Note from the poet

For those who don't know what 'Tanka' is , I can say Tanka is more like Haiku. Tanka is a classical japanese short poem which literally means 'short poem '.

Tankas became popular in the latter half of eighteenth century when the term 'tanka' was used to distinguish short poems from long poems. Traditionally tankas express the complete essence of a feeling within 31 syllables in a sequence of 5-7-5-7-7. Rhyming is not necessary at the end of each line. However, rhyme or not, a well written tanka can land quit a strong emotional punch to the reader. That's the beauty of japanese poems. In my openion, a tanka is a convergence of intense feelings which always leaves me awe struck when ever I read one.

Love and hate, so far apart, yet the emotions are similar. Well done!
