Tall and grim a shadow passes

Tired now, I wipe my glasses.

Who are you, enchanted ghoul,

Visiting a poor, old fool?

Tall and grim a shadow passes...

A woman’s gait, a young man’s laughter

Tell me dear, what are you after?

All alone, your flesh forgotten

Lovely bones, asleep and rotten

A woman’s gait, a young man’s laughter.

Oh, nothing ever stays the same…

You quiver like a feeble flame

I take your ghostly hand in mine

We dance along the edge of time.

Oh, nothing ever stays the same!

Once alive, now crumbs and ashes

Tall and grim a shadow passes

No longer can its sweet song utter

A woman’s gait, a young man’s laughter

Clinging to a long lost game

Oh, nothing ever stays the same!

*** This poetry form is supposedly called a melange. A fellow poet told me about it, but I could not find much about this form on the internet.

@Brenda: I think at some point there was an article about the melange, but it seems to have disappeared. I guess it's not an official poetry form.

BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on September 10, 2021:

Nothing ever stays the same.

I don't know anything about Melange either.

Teodora Gheorghe (author) on September 10, 2021:

Thank you, @John! This "melange" was a bit of a challenge for me, but I really liked the rhyme scheme and I wanted to give it a try.

John Hansen from Gondwana Land on September 10, 2021:

I love this poem, the rhyme scheme, flow, and form was was excellent. I have to try “melange” myself. Thank you for sharing, Teodora.
