Tall Grass God's Snakes
The older I get the hotter my soul
The taller the grass the louder the shake
Burning bushes and Texas rattlers
It’s not to die, it’s God as you wake
He said, “I’ll give you a taste of me”
But who can describe what he cannot see
Is the fever from a tree or inside of me
I won’t eat apples if they’re killing me
Pickin’ fruit at the bottom of the sea
Flyin’ through rocks and stones
So much they can’t comprehend of you
Just go where the tracks in the city will be
How can you know what’s coming
If you can’t read your own mind
Snakes shed their skin, letting it go
Ask them, they’re the ones who know
Here’s a trick, walkin’ easy on water
Did it ever stop dogs and broken bones
Waiting on the other side of the void
What you believe, the magician owns
Meet me in the city, find a flower
Growing in the cracks, not a pot
Someone will sell as many you want
The seeds choke where you walk
How can you know what’s coming
If you can’t read your own mind
Snakes shed their skin, letting it go
Ask them, they’re the ones who know
