Sweet Summertime About To End
Summer Solstice
The summer solstice, the first day of summer, was Tuesday, June 21, which is celebrated by some cultures around the world. In the northern hemisphere, the sun has traveled along its northernmost path in the sky. In the southern hemisphere this is the first day of winter as the sun is at the lowest point in the sky.
Solstice comes from a Latin word, from sol (Sun) and stitium (still or stopped). Summer ends on Thursday, September 22.
Temperatures have been excessively hot around the world this summer. Conditions like heat stroke can be a concern. When we sweat we lose mineral salts, which can affect the use of our muscles.
Obviously, we must drink enough water to prevent dehydration. Seasoned fruits and vegetables can replace the mineral salts. Using sunscreen is important. A tan is nice, but think about the long term effects as skin cancers are common. I like summer but still look forward to the beautiful colors of autumn.
Kenny Chesney - Summertime
Summertime
Summer fatigue is not a joke
Sweat with exercise is so tough
Stay in the shade when you can
Walking a distance is so rough
Try a good afternoon nap today
Instead of lying on the beach
A suntan looks good for sure
Use sunscreen they do preach
Heat stroke can be a bad risk
Drinking water we must do
As dehydration is bad news
You are the one to protect you
Recommended
A summer of love we would like
Life doesn’t always work that way
Family picnics can be a lot of fun
A game of baseball we could play
Summer is over in a few weeks
Stay hydrated with some ice tea
Sit on the veranda in a lounge chair
Enjoy the view of all that you see
Fruits and vegetables are abundant
Watermelon tastes so very delicious
Any melon is a nice afternoon snack
My love of summer is not fictitious
Good times we had all summer long
Another summer coming to an end
We’ve enjoyed the season once again
It is kind of like losing a good friend
