Wisdom from the Master

"A new year means

The blissful descent

Of a new Consciousnes." -Sri Chinmoy

"The New Year — what can it teach us? It can teach us the secret of spiritual self-reliance. It can teach us how we ourselves can be our Masters and Saviours.

From the New Year we can learn that God is God only when God is OUR God and not MY God. From the New Year we can learn that Truth is Truth only when Truth is OUR Truth and not MY Truth." -Sri Chinmoy

We are all special here; all lanterns of the One,

Who has fashioned us in Its unique image.

You and I have our own destiny, yet we

Affect the cosmos, by the vibrations that we

Offer to the world. What is my legacy?

I am the servant of the servant of Love.

She has caught me in Her blazing flames,

Moulded me into the radiance of the sun;

My tears are ablaze with the agony of longing.

O Lantern, should I try to help those in need?

Help? Who’s helping whom?

I am a spark of Light who sees only

The myriad lamps of this greater Mystery.

The moon has held me on her lap;

Licked the toxins of my burning wounds;

Kissed my scars until my impediments,

Were cast asunder to the winds.

Can Love help the very Essence that made It merciful?

Come! O Emissary of the Nameless;

Great spark of the Traceless,

Burn my Heart with the balm of Emptiness,

Replacing all, with the effulgent beacon of Thy rays.

Sweet resolutions, I wish to dine in thy banquet,

Sailing on a river of perennial Joy,

Cascading sweetness to the stones of earth;

Removing all obstacles in this field of struggle.

Why can’t this beautiful Isle be a realm of rhapsody?

Sweet resolutions, let me live this day –

A child on the bosom of its mom,

Crying Ma! Ma! With the greatest affection,

Gleefully and innocently prancing with Delight.

Wisdom from the Master

"...On the eve of the New Year, a new consciousness dawns on earth. God once again inspires each human being, each creature, with new hope, new light, new peace and new joy...

God always wants us to move ahead; He does not want us to look back. We know that while a runner is running fast, if he looks back, he will stumble. Similarly, if we are constantly looking behind at the year that we are leaving aside, we will think of our sorrow, misery, frustration, failure and so forth. But if we look forward, we will see hope dawning deep within us." -Sri Chinmoy

My New York, an inspirational piece from the writings of Sri Chinmoy

Very keen sense of observation, Mary. I like that. You are a good soul. Work with that. Gratitude.

Mary Norton from Ontario, Canada on January 09, 2019:

Look forward. This is what I keep reminding myself. Also, the Our and not the My. Happy New Year.

manatita44 (author) from london on January 06, 2019:

Yes indeed! Ryan. True failure is only when we ourselves accept defeat. Never give up! You seem intelligent and wise. God bless your Heart.

Ryan Jarvis Cornelius from Hollywood Florida on January 06, 2019:

Thanks for the inspiration. I keep them. I dont let the turmoil discourage me not to. Thats why I feel some give up on them. They get discouraged. The trials and tribulations were coming. The bible says they come to test us. I enjoyed reading this.

Wonderful enlightening peace. I keep following one resolution for the past decade. Love More!

manatita44 (author) from london on January 03, 2019:

Hi Peggy.

Spiritual writings or sayings always have deeper meanings. If you talk to enough people or even some in hospital, you will find that sometimes it is just as the mystics say, that is to say, we carry 'dead' elephants on our shoulders.

The past is like money in the sense that there is no problem with either. They shape and mould us. Even so we need to avoid becoming slaves to them. This one about the past is very real for many humans. No criticism, it is just that it can be very hard to let go of uncomely events.

Finally, for some of us as we get older, fear, insecurity and unworthiness comes to the fore. What we feel for God is reverence and not Love. We see the Almighty as separate and not inside us. Hence we are afraid of the afterlife, consciously or unconsciously

. A lot here. Just trying to be of service. Much love, my Dear Peggy

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on January 03, 2019:

According to the philosopher George Santayana "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." Learning history is important primarily for that reason. I agree with you however that focusing on our personal past foibles or failures is not a profitable way to spend our time.

Looking ahead with optimism and goals and a loving heart is the way to move forward in a positive way.

This poetry piece of yours is so beautiful. Like Bill Holland, I do not know Ryan but he should be very pleased with this offering of yours to him.

Thank you Rajan Ji. Appreciated.

Rajan Singh Jolly from From Mumbai, presently in Jalandhar, INDIA. on January 02, 2019:

Yes, we need to look forward and move ahead forgetting our past failures and negativity, and making a positive move ahead. Thank you for the master's spiritual wisdom.

My Dear Dana.

I always think lovinggĺy of you. Here's hoping that His Grace continue to shower like rain upon your Heart and light up your being. Happy New Year!

Dana Tate from LOS ANGELES on January 01, 2019:

Another beautiful masterpiece!

Happy New Year!

Gratitude, my Bhaiya Ji (Brother) Sean,

Actually it has occurred to mean that you are finally getting some deserved rest. When do you return to school?

I was lying on my bed in Germany and I switched the TV on (I don't have one). They said that the Greek economy is picking up. Awesome!

Thank you for your understanding of my work and for your beautiful family. God's willing, I will start on a big African project which will take a lot of my time. I am also scheduled for a pre-assessment for an eye operation on the 8th January. Let us see how things work out. Pray for me.

I look forward to seeing your new book in English. Jai Ram!

manatita44 (author) from london on January 01, 2019:

I am so happy that you are in tune with Sri Chinmoy's philosophy without knowing him. Blessed are they who believe and have not seen. It is the gift of Grace and not of works, lest any man should boast.

You seem a very wise soul, Mr Happy. Thank you for reading my work.

Note: The Mother is omniscient, omnipotent and omniscient. She can be whoever or whatever she likes. (Sweet chuckle)

Mr. Happy from Toronto, Canada on January 01, 2019:

"A new year means

The blissful descent

Of a new Consciousnes" Unless this has to do with some sort of astrological reasons, I find that every morning I wake-up, it is a "decent of a new consciousness": new day, new oportunities, new energy, new consciousness. I like mornings.

"MY God" - That sounds very selfish. I cannot say that I like the sound of that. "OUR God" sounds indeed much better.

"God always wants us to move ahead; He does not want us to look back." - On a scale from 1 to 10, how sure are You that It is a "He" and not a "She" perhaps? Haha!

I have no clue who Mr. Sri Chinmoy is, or was but he seems like a wise Being. Thank You for sharing some of his thoughts and yours as well.

Cheers and Happy New Year!

"if we are constantly looking behind at the year that we are leaving aside we will think of our sorrow, misery, frustration, failure and so forth" - I think unless we are trying to learn some lessons from our past, living in the past is certainly detrimental.

Ioannis Arvanitis from Greece, Almyros on January 01, 2019:

A higher kiss of Love to our Hearts, that is your sublime poem, my dear Brother! An excellent Spiritual gift for the New Year! Thank you!

My Love embraces you and all your readers!

Sean

PS: Wishes and hugs from all family members!

Ha ha. Funny, Mrs L.

Guruji always says that the past is dust. This should not be interpreted as redundant. There are a lot of the past that are awesome. Ask Thomas Jefferson. Again, it need not be beauty, for our uncomely experiences do shape us for the better.

We just don't want to live with them as dead elephants on our shoulders. I am a seeker because I have faults … I am imperfect, but I always look ahead. When folks say that a year was intense, I do not understand. I suffer, yes, like so many but I always refuse to be beaten. I also cultivate the spirit of acceptance. Helps.

I like your philosophy. 'Cool!'

P.S Listen to Guruji's piece on NY. So beautiful!!

Linda Lum from Washington State, USA on January 01, 2019:

God wants us to move ahead. Yes, we cannot re-do, but we can try again. Yesterday I read 'There is a reason why rear view mirrors are so small, and the windshield is so large."

manatita44 (author) from london on January 01, 2019:

Nice idea, Jason. You want to come with me to East Africa or perhaps you can write to the necessary NGO's etc, to make life easier for us. Lol. That would be an achievement. Chuckle. I like your idea. Go for it!

Thanks Bill.

He'll be pleased to hear this, I'm sure. Have a great day!

Jason Behm from Cebu, Philippines on January 01, 2019:

Happy New Year my friend. And God's peace be with you always.

Before, I really did not pay attention to making resolutions but as I grow old, I was kinda having them but I fail to keep them.

Now, instead of resolution, I am having a list of my achievables. These are my plans for this year to achieve.

Once again, happy holidays.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on January 01, 2019:

I do not know Ryan, but if he is your friend then I consider him a quality human being.

Wishing you peace and love in 2019, brother!
