Sunset Photographs Over Frozen Lake Michigan Inspire Poetry

Kathi writes about fossils and other earthly subjects, plus the natural history of Michigan, poetry, and more.

Suspended Undone

Every winter, with few exceptions, the shores of Lake Michigan become locked in ice, and some winters the ice sheet reaches beyond the horizon. The year 2011 was a particularly cold winter with record breaking snowfall. It created a beautiful natural spectacle over the Great Lake and touched our souls with wonder!

Amazing Photographs and poems all in a lovely format. Nicely worked.

Kathi Mirto (author) from Fennville on December 15, 2012:

Can't wait to be a grandmum! Both my kitties are 13, both males and they have an ambiguous relationship, sometimes friends and once in a while they go at each other. Then one of em wears a big scratch on his nose for months before the hair grows completely back. My Khaki kitty walks down the street with me all the time. He thinks he's a dog. Only I live on a dead end and he gets lazy and stops half way and waits for me to come back. He's not a feline stallion, lol, but if he gets too far behind, he'll come running when I call him.

epigramman on December 15, 2012:

it's amazing how fast they grow up , Kathi, pretty soon you will be the youngest looking grandmum around - lol - how old are Khaki and Patchy now - Tiffy, my mum's cat, is now 18 years old and very healthy and content - she is also the diva - and Gabriel , I would say is about 6 years old now - maybe 7, and he is an all white cat and deaf and loves going for walks with me along the beach and I take the leash off him and he runs along the shoreline like a little white feline stallion -lol

Kathi Mirto (author) from Fennville on December 15, 2012:

It looks that way to me too and to think the two preceding years we had record snow fall! Do say hello to Miss Tiffy and Mr. G. Tell them Khaki and Patchy say hello, too.

I hope you know your mum and dad are with you all the time! My two boys, Sam 26 and Cory 24 are both doin great. They both have jobs, one's in college and both have steady girlfriends, what more could one ask for these days!

epigramman on December 15, 2012:

Yes Miss K - still on the night shift detail - still loving my two best friends Little Miss Tiffy and Mister Gabriel - and yes the water level is way down and the tide is way back exposing two football field lengths of sand long and wide - how have you been keeping - how is your family - it's really great to see you again dear friend - please keep in touch - I have no family as you know but I have the loving memory of my dear mum and dad - and I know you also have the loving memory of your husband as well - yes I am getting the feeling we are going to have a repeat of last winter- what do you think?

Kathi Mirto (author) from Fennville on December 15, 2012:

You're so sweet, My neighbor is worried because we didn't have much precip last winter or summer. Last winter was the first I can remember the lake didn't freeze over! Is your water level way down too? Are you work'n night shift these days?

epigramman on December 15, 2012:

Beautiful, Kathi-I was recently (March) at Gull Lake near Kalamazoo on retreat. The beauty of the frozen lake coming alive again was breathtaking. It was the time of that HUGE harvest moon-the great big orange pumpkin, and I missed it! But, others said it was gorgeous over the lake.
