Strumming Guitars

I'm a writer, a poet, a dreamer. Born and raised in New York City. I now live in Daytona Beach, Florida. .

I hear the music,

of strumming guitars,

the strings plucking at my heart.

In my mind,

the music plays

and strumming guitars take me to paradise.

In paradise,

flowers forever bloom,

even in the dead of winter,

brilliant colors beneath caps of snow.

The music plays songs from yesteryears,

through all the sorrows and tears,.

Strumming guitars,

always take me to the paradise where we strolled

and love was never-ending.

Sunsets bright beyond the horizon,

the orange sun stepping into the sea.

Strumming guitars,

have me dancing along the seashore,

while with arms outstretched,

I send all my love –

to the paradise where you now reside.

Nights of velvet skies,

nights that once belonged to you and me.

Love will forever be,

no matter if we are not side by side.

The emotions are forever a wild ride

and memories blaze across my mind.

The moon plays with night shadows,

as you stand before me in the glow of moonbeams.

Strumming guitars play our song,

while the moments linger on,

till the dawning of a new day,

has you returning to your paradise –

while down below I wait when my hand you’ll take.

Gypsy, love this poem. It’s the guitar that resonates with me above all instruments.

Gypsy Rose Lee (author) from Daytona Beach, Florida on June 22, 2019:

Hope you're all having a wonderful weekend.

You're welcome, Eric and Englebert has long inspired me. I write in the form that is known as free verse which does not conform to any specific pattern. I love this form because once I am inspired I can just write freely and I like that. If anything happens to rhyme along the way that too is all right.

Thank you, Lorna. I have always loved Englebert's music.

Thank you, Bill.

Thank you, Brenda.

BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on June 20, 2019:

This poem took me on a lovely journey and I really enjoyed the accompanying Engelbert Humperdinck music - a favourite of my mum's.
