Strolling Through Autumn Leaves

Lorna is a published writer with a particular interest in narrative poetry, which she finds therapeutic.

A morning sky tinged with blue black clouds and a promise of rain

My footsteps quicken as I reach the park and there you were

Like burnished copper on a carpet of green, you cover the ground

Waiting patiently to be lifted and swirled

Bright golden drifts invite me to play

As I scatter you afar, you rustle, creating your own music

Swirls of colour kissing droplets of rain

As a gentle breeze lifts you in nature’s dance

Others join you in a swirling golden mass

As the naked branches fail to keep their falling leaves

Caught up in nature’s dance, my cares fade away

Like autumn leaves

I have always enjoyed this time of year Peggy and I still like to scatter the leaves. The colours are indeed beautiful. Lovely to see you and I hope you enjoy your Easter break, if a little different this year.

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on April 10, 2020:

I loved this! It made me think of the glorious fall colors that we used to enjoy in the midwest when we lived there. There is a little color here in the fall in Houston, but nothing to compare with other parts of the country where there are more deciduous types of trees that bear those amazing colors for a time.

I think it's the simple things in life that give us the most pleasure Dream On.

DREAM ON on August 02, 2019:

It is also nice to see how many different color leaves there are and how high you can make that pile. Knowing that so many people feel the same way makes it a good day.

Lorna Lamon (author) on August 01, 2019:

Glad you enjoyed the poem Dream On and I hope you do dance around in the leaves. I still jump into puddles which is another thing I enjoy doing. The Fall is our Autumn and I remember when I lived in America I found it to be a lovely way of describing this time of year. Enjoy your day.

DREAM ON on August 01, 2019:

Growing up I always said Fall instead of Autumn. I am not sure if it is the same time? I love those leaves. I could dance around in them. Rustle them with my feet. Dive in them as a kid. Maybe even do it now when no one is looking. I can't wait. I guess I am going to have to. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful poem. I live for good memories that stay alive and well. Have a happy day.

Your words bring vivid imagery to what I love most about fall. A wonderful poem that pays tribute to a season filled with such color and beckons us to stop and be caught up in such enrapture. Absolutely beautiful! I loved kicking piles of dead leaves when I was a child - they rustled and flew around and I found it delightful! You brought that all back.

Autumn has such lovely colours; it's my second favourite season, next to Spring.

You have a way with words.
