Stripped Down

Shannon is a passionate individual whose feelings and thoughts tend spill onto the pages, often in the form of poetry and sometimes essays.

Stripped down to nothingness

I am empty now

Void of any sense of purpose

With hands tied above my head

I am naked and exposed

Feeling ashamed and humiliated

Here for you to pick apart

You'll find nothing now of worth

I gave that all away

With trust and eagerness

Only to end up here

So go on, throw your stones at me

Beat me until I am bloodied and bruised

But what is it you have really proved?

Thank you, Rinita. And thanks for the follow, too!

Rinita Sen on July 03, 2018:

Wow! It really says so much in such few lines! The feeling of being vulnerable and exposed, the cruelty and bitterness of the society, nothing more to say!

Shannon Henry (author) from Texas on January 23, 2018:

And I think that you are very kind, Shyron. Thank you.

Shyron E Shenko from Texas on January 23, 2018:

Wonderful poem Shannon, you are a great poet

And I think that all the other Hubbers feel the same

Blessings and hugs dear friend

Shannon Henry (author) from Texas on December 06, 2017:

Thank you, Michael. I appreciate your kind words. I'm working on a lighter piece with the same message you just gave. One about how people can encourage us when we're down rather than kick us while we're down. These deal words, as you put it, are about being kicked when down and knowing there's strength ringer back up again no matter. But the one coming is a true story of inspiration from a friend. Hope to publish it soon. Just taking longer because of a busy schedule.

DREAM ON on December 06, 2017:

I am back to feel the harshness of your words in your hub. The truth behind a real cruel world at times. How can we overcome? How do we rise above? If we have a strong inner power nobody can ever topple us. It gives us strength and power so that we can withstand any human insults and harm. Thank you again for sharing your incredible thoughts.

Hi Tamara,

Thanks for the heartfelt comment. It's good to know when something Ivette connects with someone else. Isn't that Egbert sharevwhatvwe write? It is for me. So that's the best kind of encouragement there is.

Tamara Yancosky from Uninhabited Regions on December 05, 2017:

A deeply moving, and powerful poem. I understand this feeling too well. Writing is what has helped me to keep my sanity, and senses- what I have left, anyway. Well thank you for sharing such a descriptive piece, and helping me to see that when I feel this way, I am not alone.

Shannon Henry (author) from Texas on November 25, 2017:

Definitely not a good place to be and I wouldn't want anyone to feel that way either. Thanks for stopping by. Good tinder you.

DREAM ON on November 22, 2017:

Very deep feelings I think we all have been there at one time or another. I am positive I don't like that time or place in my life and I wouldn't want my friends to be there either. Always good to vent and share. What a good choice of words that explain a lot.

Shannon Henry (author) from Texas on November 02, 2017:

Thanks, Flourish. That's probably because this was something I was actually feeling at the time I wrote it. Writing this and letting those feelings out did wonders for letting go.

FlourishAnyway from USA on November 02, 2017:

We've all felt this at one time or another. You describe the vulnerability, emptiness, and shame well.

Shannon Henry (author) from Texas on October 09, 2017:

That's a terrible feeling, Larry. Sorry to hear that.

Larry Rankin from Oklahoma on October 09, 2017:

That's how I end up feeling most the time. Nothing left to give.

Wonderful poem.

Shannon Henry (author) from Texas on October 08, 2017:

Thank you. Glad people seem to like the video since it wasn't what I really had in mind.

Gypsy Rose Lee from Daytona Beach, Florida on October 08, 2017:

Most creative and very expressive. Your poetic words certainly speak the truth. Great choice of video.

Shannon Henry (author) from Texas on October 06, 2017:

Thanks, MzB. I appreciate that.

Doris James MizBejabbers from Beautiful South on October 06, 2017:

You really are a good poet Shanmarie. I think this expresses despair quite descriptively.

Shannon Henry (author) from Texas on October 06, 2017:

Interesting thing to be reminded of, Eric. I think I see why it reminded you of it. Thanks.

Shannon Henry (author) from Texas on October 06, 2017:

Thanks, Jackie. It wasn't quite what I was looking for when I searched for a song, but it works, I suppose.

Eric Dierker from Spring Valley, CA. U.S.A. on October 06, 2017:

Very cool. This reminds me of that great line from Janis Joplin: Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose.

Jackie Lynnley from the beautiful south on October 06, 2017:

Great poem and love that song I have not heard in years!

Shannon Henry (author) from Texas on October 06, 2017:

LOL. Thanks, Clive.

Shannon Henry (author) from Texas on October 06, 2017:

Gee, thanks Bill. What a compliment, especially coming from you! I feel like my writing is at its best when I write that way and channel emotions into something hopefully much bigger than myself.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on October 06, 2017:

Raw....honest.....gritty....painful....I think they all apply, and that means brilliant writing.

Clive Williams from Jamaica on October 06, 2017:

Mmmmm....Don't worry, I will get you clothes again.
