Strangers Yet Friends

Nithya Venkat enjoys writing about nature and different aspects of life in the form of poetic verses.

Strangers yet Friends

Strangers yet Friends

We make so many friends through social networking sites across the globe, all thanks to the internet. Come to think of it do we really know them well?

This is a poem about such wonderful friends beyond boundaries between countries across the globe.

Through the internet

I know you

I know not how you look

Nor do I show you

My true self as I truly am

It is just an icon that represents me

Strangers yet friends we are and will be

Through intricate network of cables

We chat and communicate

On the internet coffee table

We relive our tales

We exchange greetings

Send wishes, warmth and love

We talk for real

Networking somehow

I cannot see you

You cannot see me

Unless we are on live chat

In front of a camera

You and me

Mostly somehow

We never are

But still we are true friends

We all can take a bow!

In the virtual world of reality

I don’t know you

You don’t know me

I know about you from what you write

I develop an image of you in my mind

And you become my true friend real time

I truly care for you and you truly care for me

We are strangers yet friends

On the Social Network

This is how things nowadays work

Came back to read your poem another time! I have great admiration for my online friends. Sometimes their gentle words, their reassuring remarks, their positive feedback is enough to lift me up. Real friends are of course very important, and thankfully I am blessed with many, but I love to hear from my online friends.

I consider myself blessed to have online friends like you.

Thanks for capturing this so beautifully and the title is great.

Vellur....This is wonderful! The longer I communicate and share with all my virtual friends, the closer we become. There are moments that the barriers become blurred and it feels we're in the live company of one another.

It must be possible to build a bond and create a relationship of inspiration, because I love my online family as much as those who are visible in my life.

Beautiful work. Peace, Paula

However sad as both you and Billy state, it can still be a beautiful relationship, and you have captured it excellently. Would be proud to have a relationship like this. Indeed, a touch of the romantic, there, perhaps?

I do have a poem for you, by the way: https://hubpages.com/literature/The-Joy-of-Inner-E...

Vellur,

I love this poem. Like so many of the others, I feel truly blessed for my online friends. I am thankful for HP and the support I have received here. Naturally, if the online situation is one where there is a potential romantic involvement, the rules seem to change which is another reason why HP is so awesome for the kinship formed is more like that of a writers' group. V+ for sure!

Thank You,

Kim

bluebird true friendship is priceless and rare nowadays. Thank you for reading.

bluebird on February 17, 2014:

It is something how we can cyber-talk to each other although spread out far and wide as we all are.

Even with all this, it's true that people are lonely still...and no wonder...we all need one on one to thrive. It makes us value the real touch of true friendships, doesn't it!

Eric Wayne Flynn from Providence, Rhode Island on February 16, 2014:

Enjoyed the sentiment greatly.

Vellur, you have truly assumed us as friends on net ; yet I believe that we are more than that. When we interact with each other by way of our unique words, we create webs of reciprocity and are blessed with great affection, pleasure, knowledge and insight. You have penned a beautiful and passionate poem !

Nithya Venkat (author) from Dubai on January 17, 2014:

PurvisBobbi44 as a caregiver you must be very busy and as you say one's time is not their own. Internet does help us make friends whom we otherwise will never meet or have the opportunity to read their work and appreciate. Enjoy reading your writings. Thank you for stopping by.

Barbara Purvis Hunter from Florida on January 17, 2014:

Hi Vellur,

A great poem and I will have to say---my Virtual friendships are all I have time for these days. And, I know it is sad, but when you are a caregiver one's time is not their own.

Keep writing such great poems to make us stop and ponder---we do have blessings from the internet of making friends and communicating when one has time.
