Still Submerged in a Yellow Submarine: A Poetic Metaphor
I often think of the Beatles' song
of us "living in a yellow submarine"
and its truth comes to me so strong
with those lyrics and what they mean.
Submarine being our subconscious mind
that makes us act like automated machines
with any escape hatches so impossible to find
with verdict to stay stuck in same mental scenes.
Deep ocean around, and even deeper sky above
meaning our consciousness, powerful and vast
theme for idle hours only touched with glove
while in confines dictated by our past.
Stupidity couldn't settle for ignoring the song
but had to kill its maker proving the song true
showing once again how deadly we are wrong
by not turning our hate on the captain and crew.
"Captain" being ego that's taking us for a ride
and "crew" is our habit-prone automated mind
making us drift in the ocean from its side to side
to the soul's S.O.S. deaf, and to living mess blind.
