Song of the Harmonica Man

Author:

The Harmonica Man sitting on his porch at night,

Playing his Blues songs by the light of the moon.

Patting his foot, helps give his playing a fine beat,

Easy as breathing in and out, of each soulful tune.

The shrill sounds fill the evening with such delight,

Followed by each note, a deep harmonious refrain.

Sounds, like a train going down the track, just right,

Its whistle moans, greets the dark, as a bird in flight.

Refrain:

Harmonica man, play me your fine tune,

Lose me in the full moon's golden light.

Help me to forget, troubles I have met,

In the darkness, in the arms of the night.

Harmonica's refrain, like magic, relieves the strain,

Lifts the weight of those burdens that life demands.

His heartfelt melody, is like a Blues grand rhapsody,

Only that great music man of soul ever understands.

A sweet smell of Jasmine and honeysuckle in the air,

As Night birds call mates, exchange notes, each pair.

Frogs and crickets play in each musical orchestration,

Shooting stars fly by the moon, their own presentation.

Refrain:

Harmonica man, play me your fine tune,

Lose me in the full moon's golden light.

Help me to forget, troubles I have met,

In the darkness, in the arms of the night.

The Harmonica Man plays his magic musical notes,

As all are carried by that sweet night breeze's spell.

And with one last stanza he all salutes, ends his song,

Then saying a fond Adieu, he bids us each a farewell.

Harmonica Man, play me your fine tune,

Lose me in the full moon's golden light.

Help me to forget, troubles I have met,

In the darkness, in the arms of the night.

This was a lovely poem to read. I can just imagine that harmonica man sitting on his porch at night playing a tune and tapping his foot to the music. Nice mental image.

I saw the title and thought of the opening refrains from Billy Joel's "Piano Man," that haunting harmonica playing the opening notes....love that song and love this poem.
