Someday Yes Someday
A therapist told me to write a letter to my inner child. I kept avoiding it because I felt like I didn't know myself. It came out as a poem.
Someday
Little Gracie, the early riser,
Someday, yes, someday
The sun won’t be your only friend.
You’ll still wake up every morning
To open the blinds and sit on the floor.
You’ll still start your morning
Saying hello to the sun and
Taking in the rays of light
for love, warmth, and comfort.
Little Gracie, so confused and scared.
Someday, yes, someday
You’ll try to question everything
But feel as though
You never understand anything.
Yes, someday there will be
even more fear in every waking moment,
But don’t forget your strength and courage
Because you’ll need it again.
Little Gracie, so misunderstood and lonely.
Someday, yes, someday
You won’t have to live this way.
You won’t feel alone in a room
You’d never expect to be in.
You’ll be surrounded by people
Who do understand.
They’ll tell you that you’re not alone.
You’ll truly and honestly believe it
In every ounce of your heart
The fear won’t go away, but
The confusion will start to subside.
Little Gracie, such a fearless fighter.
Someday, yes, someday
You’ll understand that you deserved better.
You’ll know none of it should’ve happened.
You will no longer be locked in
Or locked out ever again.
No, the fear won’t go away but it will change.
Little Gracie, life is worth living.
Someday, yes, someday
You’ll learn you have a voice.
You’ll feel free the more you speak,
And you will be heard without judgement.
You’ll try everything to find yourself,
And push to continue the fight.
It will never be without hardship,
But all the pain will lesson in time,
Ease with compassion,
And subside with empathy.
I know you’ll want to give up.
But someday, yes, someday
You’ll fight to keep that voice.
Never again will you submit
To hurting your soul or
Stolen pieces of your heart.
You’ll understand the value of protecting
Your mind, body and soul because
You’ll need every breadcrumb to strive for
Aspirations you’re knowingly, yet
Unknowingly are fully capable of.
You’ll doubt your abilities
and fear the rejection,
But don’t let the reflection darken
Your hopes and dreams.
Just put one foot in front of the other
And continue to find happiness in your day.
You’ll finally start to fight for your life.
At times, it’ll test your wits and
May seem too difficult, confusing, or lonely,
But you’ll finally know it’s worth living!
So get up and greet the day
Because someday, yes someday, you’ll know
What it feels like to be treated with
Respect, decency, and worthiness.
