The Well

I write as a hobby. Feedback is appreciated regardless of support or criticism.

The Well

The kind of man they think I am

I wish I could become it

My kids think I’m superman

Lord, I'm so far from it

They're too young to understand

My life as a kid

I know they'd be real surprised

To know some things I did

But...

I got 'em fooled, so fooled

I have a role that I must play

And I'm getting pretty good at this

I practice every day

But if they ever catch a glimpse

Of what makes them think it's true

They'll see I'm nothing without my God

Yes, I need my Father too

They see me as someone strong

Standing without fear

They don't know how my heart breaks

When I see a single tear

I can fix a bike, mend a doll

Put a train back on the tracks

But He provided every word

When I couldn’t bring mom back

And still…

They're fooled, so fooled

I have a role that I must play

And I'm getting pretty good at this

I practice every day

But if they ever catch a glimpse

Of what makes them think it's true

They'll see I'm nothing without my God

Yes, I need my Father too

I hope when they get older

And finally figure out

That we are all imperfect

And we all have our doubts

They see the well I drink from

And know I always put that first

And, on their own, they meet me there

Each and every time they thirst

Until then...

I got 'em fooled, so fooled

I have a role that I must play

And I'm getting pretty good at this

I practice every day

But if they ever catch a glimpse

Of what makes them think it's true

They'll see I'm nothing without my God

Yes, I need my Father too
