Sleeping Pill

I was sleeping for forty years
Living the nightmares of falling short
When I woke I only had dreams of the past
But I knew that playing at love was not sport

All the places I used to go
They were for me and not my friend
I tried to make the best of it
But I knew it wouldn’t work in the end

I woke up and found you standing there
Deep in my heart I knew it was true
All along I tried to wake myself up
My sleeping pill was everything that wasn’t you

There was so much nothing yet I felt alive
Something gave me the energy to survive
I wasn’t waiting for my life to start
I discovered myself with all of my art

But love is what I always wanted
Inside your eyes there was no stranger
No feeling of risk, no feeling of danger
It was calm I wanted, not love that was haunted

I woke up and found you standing there
Deep in my heart I knew it was true
All along I tried to wake myself up
My sleeping pill was everything that wasn’t you

I came on with no thought of restraint
And no I’m not leaving, no, instead I’m believing

I woke up and found you standing there
Deep in my heart I knew it was true
All along I tried to wake myself up
My sleeping pill was everything that wasn’t you
