While We Were Lovers

I am a young African hoping to change the white man's grave narrative for good.

FIRST TALE

Let her crave you for your difference.

Let her taste your inner being.

Stand up to the mountains and foes.

Let them know you are hers

SECOND TALE

Love and Heartbreak are brothers

You can't know Love without heartbreak.

SECOND TALE

Heartbreak and me.

Daybreak and her.

Those were the words we shared as lovers.

Dungeon, pits and Death.

Crystal, Clear and Dirt.

Those were the words we never uttered.

As I took you to the altar.

THIRD TALE

Dream, Feel, Delight.

United, Rely.

Ponder.

That is all she would ever want.

Your heart, your soul, your all.

Your most inner being.

It is what would make her stand for you even when

Others wouldn't.

Like a Reed in the wind.

Should you stand and sing.

If you want to take her to the aisle.
