Mother and Child

Single Moms, Walk That Extra Mile

Dear single moms

Walk that extra mile

To meet the target

Of establishing your child’s future.

Also, dear single moms

Do play a double role

Of a provider’s fatherly role

Also give your child motherly love and care.

Nurture your child to face the life

And make him independent

To make his life and future

Secure and safe.

Love him but do not

Smother him with your love

Care for him of course

But do not let your care clip his wings

Birds care for their of springs

Feed them and protect them

And when their wings mature

Make them fly away from the nest to seek their future.

Surpass all hurdles

Like finances and health issues

Walk that extra mile

Walk that extra mile.

Dear single moms

Walk that extra mile

To make your child achieve

Independent and secure future for himself and his family.

Thanks MG Singh for viewing my poem. It is even more hard if health and financial issues are also complicating the matter. It is better if the single mom is well qualified and working. But it leaves a vacuum for child rearing if she is required to leave her child in the care of a servant while attending to her job; especially if the child is a minor. Thanks for your comment.

Peggy, I meant to convey exactly these sentiments through my write-up. I am myself a single mom and going through hard times, facing so many problems nurturing my child single - handedly. Thanks for your comment. I value it so much.

It is harder to be a single mom than with the support of a dad or partner. Your poem encourages a single mom to do all she can to help her child grow and mature.
