Silence Per Brenda's Prompt

Brenda Arledge has given the Hubpage community her eighteenth prompt, ‘silence’. Thes prompts always give us several efforts that are always wonderful. The prompts have made many of us try our skills in poetry and in short stories.

It took me a few days to decide if or how I might respond to her prompt. My muse takes a while to kick in sometimes. I really love when our TV is off and there is silence. I could not think of a better place than walking through the forest for silence, as you only hear the beautiful sounds of nature. There is a stillness in the forest that speaks to me.

Therefore, I wrote two poems.

Acrostic Poem

Sitting quietly I take a breath

I look at the birds at their nest

Listening to them chirp so brightly

Each squirrel also searches about

Nuts the reward if they do their best

Calmly looking a fluffy white clouds

Enjoying nature at its very best

Forest - Silence

The worries fall off my shoulders

As I look up at the blue skies

I wander aimlessly in the forest

Finding peace in the quiet trees

Walking slowly I take a deep breath

The sun is peeking through the trees

I look up and see the chirping birds

I even hear the buzzing of the bees

Sitting on a stone breathing in fresh air

Squirrels chasing each other in the trees

I look at the wild flowers yellow and pink

As I sit I wonder what the squirrel sees

The presence of God I would never deny

Silence is golden as I pray to my father

The sun gets brighter, the day progresses

I would like to fly away just like the bees

The light breeze rustles the leaves

The beauty of the forest stirs my soul

I love the beautiful fluffy white clouds

Silence is golden it makes me whole

I finally get up to continue my walk

Listening to birds making their pleas

Nature is splendid in this great forest

I do not really ever want to leave

Final Thoughts

I hope everyone enjoys the sounds of nature and the silence of the forest. Being away from the TV, computer or people can be a way to reset your feeling. It is so calming. I hope everyone enjoys the poems and the videos.

Hi Brenda,

Tuning out the world is a great idea. I'm glad you enjoyed the poems.

That is a setting where I feel closer to God.

It took me a few days to decide how to write about silence. When I started thinking about the woods I knew that was the path.

Thank for your generous comments. I always appreciate your feedback. I hope you have a very good and calm weekend.

BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on June 25, 2021:

It takes me hours before I turn on my TV.

The quiet is good sometimes, but I like the quiet in your Forest better.

Your acrostic poem paints the perfect picture.

It is like that where I go to walk in our park.

There are always squirrels & birds.

I love your poem Forest - Silence.

It flows so peaceful.

I can see you sitting on that stone breathing it all in.

Absolutely beautiful!

It does seem like we can feel the presence of God.

That desire to fly away hits all of us, i think

That silence stirs our soul and I wish we could capture it forever.

I don't want to leave it either.

It sounds like just what I need today.

This is a fantastic reminder for us to tune out the world for awhile.

I will post a link in the article.
