Shades of Stillness

Lorna is a published writer with a particular interest in narrative poetry, which she finds therapeutic.

Inner silence where we are free

From the constraints of life

Moving quietly within the delicate sounds

Of a mind at peace with a troubled past

Wrapped in the stillness of hope

The awakening in the morning’s hush

Of a peaceful soul in quiet repose

Where memories of a cherished love

Like the gentle rush of a summer breeze

Rests quietly beside the stillness of a broken heart

Acknowledging the beauty of tranquility

Where there is no beginning or no end

Echoes of the past are imprinted on the mind

They conjure up dreams of many different hues

Falling like stars in the stillness of night

Finding solace in long forgotten memories

Where the seeds of consciousness are stored

Passing through the portal to inner happiness

Transcending the stages of this human life

Accepting that final breath of perfect stillness

This is beautiful. I'm an artist and a loner. My favorite thing is the spend the day alone with my art and my own thoughts and memories. Well said.

        Blessings,

        Denise

Some nice imagery filled with hope and delight...and an end that is somehow pessimistic, but somehow at peace.

I have a bad tendency to think too much about past errors and unhappiness. You've made me feel a whole lot better this morning, Lorna, with this advice. Thank you.

This is a brilliant poem Lorna. The happiness and peace of silence are so perfectly portrayed.

The last bit reminds me of the last part of Wordsworth's Daffodils where the poet sits indoors and recollects the scene with the flowers.

Happy memories stored inside can be healing and give us such solace.

        Great read

Thank you, Lorna for sharing a beautiful poem. It is certainly an enjoyable read, and it carries deep meanings of silence and stillness. In moments of chaos and unrest, I crave peace of mind and pin-drop silence and it is then I can get along with life with hope and light once again. I think this rings true for pretty much everyone!

This is a beautiful poem, Lorna, that helps us to appreciate the moments of stillness and tranquility in life which far too often, we don't make enough time for. A time to contemplate the beauty that we have witnessed and reflect back on times in our lives which brought us so much joy and comfort. Reflecting on those times, for me, is one of the most rewarding aspects of my consciousness and your poem is a perfect illustration of this. Thanks for sharing!
